I have upgraded the rear suspension with 4 new Koni shocks, an improvement over the stock shocks. My wife says she is not bounced around in the back of the coach like she was before when we are going down the road. The front shock mounts have larger diameter bolts on the 2023 than the 2022 so have not found an application for replacing the front shocks yet.
We did install Safe T Plus on the front and that has been a great improvement in steering.

I am very interested in potential suspension improvements, so thank you for this. Surprising a new vehicle needs upgrades to the suspension, but I have done similar things to cars in the past. Looking forward to how you address the front end.

I felt like warming up this old thread to mention my favorite feature of the DT-12. Well, not so much the DT-12 by itself, but also how it integrates with the rest of the drivetrain and software.
It's called Descent Control, and it's basically cruise control for going downhill. It couples the Jake brake, transmission, and cruise control so you can set a speed on downhill grades and let the truck figure out the right combination of gear, exhaust brake setting, and RPMs to maintain the set speed all the way down. I just got back from a trip that took me through western NC and VA and I-77 reminded me how much I like this feature. As much as we talk about power and torque hill-climbing ability, managing a safe and controlled descent is even more important (IMO).
This feature wasn't available with Allisons in my model year (2022) because the exhaust break controls weren't yet integrated with the IPM computer - it may be different now (or it may not be - I don't know). But if you have a DD13 or DD16 and DT12, I highly recommend checking out Descent Control.

managing down hill speeds is one of the reasons why electrifying trucks is so difficult...
if you get rid of that big air compressor out front, that converts torque into heat with literally no wear while doing so, well then you have to use recuperation, but then a battery can only handle so much, and thats still way less than that big ol diesel with jakes right below the read line would take in happily all day long.

Uncle Mike, yes the Descent Control is a great feature.
Still loving my decision to go with the DT-12 transmission and glad they were able to do the flash to get me Economy Mode and E-coast, I am told these are now standard starting the beginning of this year.
Just this week got my order for new HD Shocks all around, been working on getting these since last April. Installed the fronts myself, pretty easily. Will have a dealer remove the rear Koni's and install the HD Shocks and will report my driving impressions when I put some miles on them.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience with the HDs. Occasional front-end porpoising over bridge transitions is the only thing I notice on mine, and not sure it's a big or frequent enough problem to justify the spend on HDs....but if you were to tell me the HDs solves that problem, I might be tempted....

That is the problem I am having too, hoping that the HD's solve that, I will let you know. Will not be driving till early April.
The Koni's did reduce the rear bouncing around, according to my wife going back there while going down the road. Will see if HD's are better, the build quality is amazing.

After just under a year the front Koni’s I put on are shot. All of the ‘issues’ I had originally sought to address are back (mostly swaying, porpoising, and extreme roughness on road seams and bridge transitions). I just bit the bullet and ordered a full set of 6 HD shocks from Pat Gerber. That stung, but I’m looking forward to trying them out. Will report back after I get some miles on them.

You will love them, a lot better quality than the Koni's.
I removed the Koni's after 8 months and 8,000 miles.

I hope you’re right. I didn’t keep track of the mileage, bud I’d guess I only have between 8,000 and 10,000 miles on these Koni’s. If nothing else, I can send these back to be rebuilt in another 8,000 miles.

They arrived today. I didn’t take any pics, but they are impressive…huge and well built. The rear shocks have 3” bodies and dwarf the ones from the factory (that were shot). Install is a JOB…took 3.5 hours nonstop working alone.
Will test drive tomorrow before heading back out Thursday. Hoping they live up to my expectations.

Hey guys great thread - In most cases, economy mode is not activated on many RV's for the simple fact an RV chassis is never un-loaded. Economy mode forces the logic to quick-shift the transmission to keep RPM low in an attempt to save fuel. Economy mode on some applications will also avoid using 1st gear and start in 2nd, plus skips gears more often.
Economy is designed for semi bob-tailing, where the truck is empty. Since our RV chassis are always loaded, there is no advantage to using this mode. In fact, mileage will generally worsen using economy mode since it tends to bog the engine by shifting gears too soon, delaying the coach from reaching highway speeds sooner.
Economy mode is called "Fuel Sense" on an Allison transmissions, I had a Verona with an L9 and 3200 TRV which remained in Fuel Sense mode all the time, the Coach was a dog. This problem was rectified my an Allison dealer flashing the processor. My lightweight Verona 34' became a rock ship, performance doubled it was like a different engine.
If you would like to read more on Fuel Sense or a Renegade Verona, please visit my in depth article on this forum at the link below:

Be Safe - Mike
