Jake brakes and tail lights

Questions related to a 2021 Verona LE.

Can anyone confirm if the brake lights illuminate when the Jake brake is activated? I have heard yes on no.

Thanks,
Ken

Some do but I'm not sure about all. Have someone follow you and know for sure.

Thanks, but we are waiting on the RV to be finished and delievered.

I am researching towed brakes and some work of a brake signal from the RV.

Thanks,
Ken

The brake light activation could be chassis manufacturer and engine dependent .

My vintage Freightliner the brake lights are on with the exhaust brake active , members with newer coaches ( on Freightliner chassis) report that Cummins shop can turn the function , off.

My toad brake system ( also vintage ) operates without brake light input , fully proportional , so no problems.

….would think the primary source for triggering the aux. brakes on a toad, would be the brake pedal in the RV [ie, thru the brake light switch]. To me, a Jake or PAC brake is similar to down shifting the engine to slow the vehicle. Accordingly, I only want the toad aux brake to activate when I apply the service brakes via the brake pedal--IMHO.

I just had the DW driving the toad follow me. We used our cellphones on Bluetooth. When I told her my Pacbrake was on she told me my corner brake lights were on but the center brake light was off and when I used the service brake all three brake lights came on.
I'm not a complete Luddite but it saved a lot of time and headache to find a definitive answer to the question. YMMV of course.[emoji1783]

Yes the CHiMSL ( Center High Mounted Stop Light ) power doesn't route through the turn signal switch ; the way the regular brake lights do ; but finding that feed to tap in for a trailer brake controller or toad brake system can be an issue .

Very good question. I will be taking my LE for its monthly ride soon and you are invited to follow me down the road. I keep mine set on Hi all the time. The only time it is not on Hi is when DW runs the Swiffer down the dash and I notice next time I need it.

Certainly. How far do you travel on your monthly ride? Any chance we can meet half-way between Pittsburgh and Punta Gorda?

Thanks,
Ken

Some do and some do not. Mine does not it is a chassis ECM or BCM thing. FL can program the jake to activate lights or not. Wish they would make them all the same. I have had rigs both ways I prefer they do not come on with jake.

Just an FYI you are not required to have a third brake light on a toad, it is considered a trailer when being towed. Once you disconnect then it is required on all modern vehicles.

I traced mine down to an option on the transmission ECM. Brake lights on or off when Pac Brake engaged. Can be set to either option with transmission programmer. 07 Beaver, Cat, Allison 3000 series.

Not sure yet about our Verona's Brake lights, but the brake lights on my Toad generally do get activated by the engine brake. My Toad's lights are triggered by the surge brake lever on my Ready Brute Elite tow bar.

On mine the coach brake lights come on when the engine brake is working, the center brake light and toad/trailer brake lights come on when the coach brake is depressed.
