Hi all is this the right group to learn about renagade type rv's My buddy is inrerested In a Renagade with a mobil home type conversion in back and a box on the reear end. Is that a toy hauler?He is a Professional dog handler and spends about 150 days a year on the road. He is tired of motel rooms. I spent about a year on here learnin about slide in and am very happy with what the guys over there advised me to get. I'm hopin to do the same for him. as I said he is on the road and can't spend time online lookin for a rig Thanx in advance jim

I assume you are referring to the Kibbi Renegade? Kibbi Renegade There are several Rvs with the Renegade name, so want to be sure.

Kibbi builds them to order, so your friend can get what ever he wants, if he has the price.

But most any "toy hauler" style trailer or motorhome would offer him the basics - living space plus room for a kennal. There are also horse trailers with similar set ups that might be adaptable to "kennel trailers".

Stay away from Renegade! After 1 year we are getting rid of ours. It is on a 2004 Volvo twin screw. Where do I start? Well they built the RV box right on top of the fuel tanks so that it is almost impossible to fuel the truck. Fueling usually results in fuel all over me and 5 minutes of trying to get the nozzle in and out of the tanks. Of the three slide outs 2 of them do not function properly. The whole frame work that they built on the truck chassis is soooo rusted that bolt heads are not the correct size anymore. They put compartment doors on in places with no compartment built behind just an open space. Some how they destroyed the shower valve then pumped it full of goop to try and seal it, we found this after water started running out the side of the RV when somebody showered which soaked the wall and floor. They made a disaster out of the wiring when they wired the lights into the rv box from the truck (tail and running). Many calls to Kibbi and the dealer fell on deaf ears. I made all the repairs myself except for the crack up the wall on the outside where the poorly done slideout finally broke it. Their work behind the walls and underneath stuff is shoddy at best. I won't have to worry about it anymore as I traded it off to a different brand. At Memphislast year a Pro Stock driver had one of their trailers and had 2 huge signs on it about how poor it was and a lemon and that Kibbi wouldn't do anything about it, so they ARE getting some free advertising. Their reps are no help either. Had one stop and talk to me at the Craftsman Tools nationals at St. Louis. Told him about and showed all of the above. He took the "K" number of the truck and said he would get with us on the problems, never heard from them again.

The type of motorhome you are referring to is a truck conversion.

Hi Stregna! So you're not a Renegage lover! What did you end up replacing it with? We're also looking.
Haulmark? Legends (out of Michigan)? 450 Mercedes Motors with ?Allison 6 speeds??? Our primary option is to replace our 36 foot toyhauler and 3500 Chev Duramax Dually with a quality motor/coach/w/garage. Thanks for your help. Sincerely sorry to hear of your Renegade experience!!! Ironhorses

United Specialties seems to have a nice product, but I know of 3 of their toterhomes that were built with overweight steering axles. Right from their factory, the steering axle weighed 15,600. A major problem since the steering axle came from Freightliner with 6000# tires. But even with the correct tires to haul the load, there are other problems. If you are using the home for commercial and display company signs and DOT numbers, you'll have to buy overweight axle permits in many different states.

I suppose that any truck converter can build the truck and give you an overweight steering axle.

Look at Showhauler too.

We love our United Specialties. No issues except the the couch arm, and they sent me a new one within a week. Tony there was exceptional with helping us and the our dealer and their sales people have been exceptional. We looked at Optima, Renegade, NRC and Haulmakr before buying ours.

By chance have you weighed your front axle? My former employer had two new U.S. toterhomes delivered in February, and one last Fall. The '04 was built on a FL-112 chassis, the two '05s were built on Columbia 112 chassis. All 3 have overweight steering axles...15,600#. The stock tires from Freightliner were only rated for 6000# each.

George, United Specialties is getting their trucks delivered with the heavier front tires. Renegade has been ordering the heavier front suspension and tires for a while. I have weighed quite a few motorhomes and have not found one to be over loaded. I think the coach manufacturers try to get the load close to max on the front to get a good ride.

I have not weighed my front axle, guess I should, tires rated for 7000+ lbs plus. So maybe I got lucky with the tires.. We love ours, didn't care for Renegade or Haulmark, NRC. Optima was a lot of $ and in my opinon you didn't get a much better unit.. Showhauler seems to be a popular unit also
