VROOM Slides

My 2022 Renegade Explorer ERB is at the BRAND NEW Vroom Slide facility in Marana, AZ. They moved into their new facility last Friday and my coach is the first here getting 3 Schwintec slides replaced before these fail as all seem to do eventually. Brian, Joey and Tenlee are great! The Vroom slide mechanism looks so much better engineering wise and much more robust! They now have capacity to do a number of coaches at the same time. They are in it for the long haul! And I am sure they will be kept busy.

I would include some photos of it but it is WAY too difficult for this novice to post photos here compared to Facebook.

Getting the Schwintek slide in my Tiffin replaced in June at Custom RV in Red Bay, AL. They were trained and "certified" by VROOM to replace slides where Tiffin's are manufactured. Each time my Schwintek extends/retracts I get very nervous.

I have two Schwintek’s ( German for “will fail soon”) which fortunately aren’t the huge slides which likely won’t make it off the dealers lot, but like others I hold my breath and pray every time I push that rocker switch. The mechanism always sounds like it’s struggling and could crap out at any time. I guess I’m just from another planet or something, but if folks like the OP were having my product replaced with an aftermarket mechanism because it has a history of failure I’d do something about it or find something else to do. An industry doesn’t invent itself around replacing something that doesn’t need replacing.

I have a 22 Explorer also. My last 3 coaches have all had Schwintek slides. Never had a problem with them. And any owner or tech knows how to fix them if they do fail. Key to their operation is keeping your finger on the button an extra few seconds after extending or retracting and don’t stop them mid way.

If I keep my finger on the button a fraction of a second too long I have to go under the coach with a 3/4" wrench to un jamb it.

Besides, I’m not sure if “There are plenty of people trained to fix them” is a ringing endorsement. If you watch the video of how the vroom slide mechanism is designed it’s obvious why it functions better and doesn’t appear to be proprietary, nor is it rocket science. It’s puzzling to me that Schwintek persists with a design that is so prone to failure.

Never experienced that. Not right.

I don’t recall making a “ringing endorsement “. Simply stated my experience and thoughts. If I’m out in the middle of nowhere….I know any RV Tech can fix my slides. That will not be the case with VROOM. And having owned 6 motorcoaches in the last 25 years there is one thing I know for sure. Every component can and will need repair.

I was watching a Renegade factory video tour. The tour guide indicated that Renegade never exceeds 80% of the slide's rated weight.

My suspicion is that some manufacturers might be pushing the capacity of the slide mechanism.

I do like the Vroom - and if I ever had a schwintek fail that is where I'd be headed.

schwintec ratings

Dual rail schwintec system is only rated to 1000 lbs and a 10' slide. If you have anything bigger or heavier and your mfg used this and now its failing, lets get a class action lawsuit going. Any attorneys out there?

Did they get their parking lot paved? I was there on the 4th day they were opened and it was still dirt! Great people, and I wish them well!Click image for larger version
