Weigh Stations

Had a first today. While crossing into OK from TX on I40 we came upon a weigh station. The sign said ‘Commercial vehicles, busses, must stop unless given a Prepass’ (paraphrasing somewhat).

I didn’t give it much thought until I caught a flash (camera?) out of the corner of my eye and the digital signs lit up in red with “TRUCK MUST STOP”.

Since I don’t identify as a truck , I drove on by and no one chased me down.

We haven’t traveled in all that many states yet since we got the Renegade, but I’ve yet to see the above (or stop at a scale.)

Anyone else experienced this or been chased down (or weighed)?

we've hit all the lower 48 states and I've never once gone into a scale station. Never had a problem so far.

Had a similar experiance this week in NS. Ran over the auto weigh on the highway and the light flashed calling me in. I drove by. I think they were calling in all vehicles that hit the hi speed weigh strips. No problems. There was several trucks waiting at the chicken coop.

Those lights are triggered by weight and # of axels. Since a diesel pusher is really only a two axel truck it may trigger the weight sensor as you go across it. And no, they will not chase you down, in fact you are more likely to get a ticket if you pull in and cross the scale. They don't like that

The prepass is a device that goes in the windshield of the truck, registered to the truck and the company. If a trucking company has a lot of violations they will make every truck from that company stop. Also I think it is connected by computer so if you weigh once it replays on for a certain amount of time.

You will not get a ticket for going into a Weigh Station

You will get some looks and a wave to git!

Been there/done that

Weight triggered the flash and signage....but YOUR RV is not required to stop at weigh stations

It’s been a couple years or so since I had to stop at a scale (I drove a bobtail for a few years between San Diego and LA back in the 70s); I haven’t seen the digital signage and warnings before - not even sure they have it in CA?

And wasn’t sure if different states had different requirements.

Then again, it seems a lot of scales are closed when I go by...
