"Best car of the last 70 years, Tesla" .... Hmmmm. I doubt that - even though I've never been in a Tesla.

As an example: Our 20 year old Lexus LS430 sedan has a 290 HP V8, gets 25-27 MPG on the open road, flattens you against the seatback if you put your foot in it, has no engine noise unless you put your foot in it, has almost no road noise due to outstanding overall vehicle sound insulation everywhere, rides like it's on a cloud while at the same time sticking to the road like glue under all conditions, has an automatic electrically locking rear differential when more traction is required, has good old knobs and buttons for all dash functions instead of a touch display that incapacitates use of the cabin functions if the screen electronics go south, has heated front/rear seats, has a huge trunk that can be remotely opened, has headlights that don't cost a fortune to replace even if one should ever need to be, has a skylight for blue-sky days, has a fuel tank large enough to provide a 500+ mile range for minimum hassle on long trips, and has a very tight turning radius.

So then, your Lexus was "car of the year" in 2003. Not bad, actually!

Nope on "car of the year" ... that I know of.

My point is/was that probably there are other new/used cars out there that could do everything and (maybe) more than any new/used Tesla model can do -> except run on electricity made possible from lithium mining instead of gas made possible from oil wells.

True. Keep in mind though that gas and oil are consumed by a vehicle one and done. Whereas the battery still has the same amount of lithium in it in 20 years when it is recycled as it does today. EV’s don’t consume lithium.

And of course you can “fuel” your car at home.

Nothing wrong with keeping a car that suits your needs though, no matter how old it gets or what fuel it uses.

Cheers.

Out of curiosity, did you ever change a rear tire on a Citroen?

But lithium mining "consumes a lot" and could really get invasive going forward ... but until small fusion reactors for vehicles are available, I guess we have no choice.

Lithium will probably not be a limiting or major resource in the not too distant future. This year the price of lithium has plummeted 60%, sodium batteries are developed, and new lithium mining technologies that are much more efficient, along with new sources, are all flooding the market and driving prices down. Not to mention eventually those batteries will be recycled and put that lithium right back in the market.

I had to go back to threaded view to figure out who you were replying to. The irv2 app is chronological view, and the web forum default display is threaded view. It can help if the post being responded to is quoted by the reply.

Why do you think Hemifoot is drinking the "Kool Aid"? He's got a wife that loves her Tesla, he seems to like his but doesn't consider it a replacement for his Powerwagon, and another family member got his Tesla totaled in what might have not been a total-out in a different car.

I'm at a loss to find any Flavor Aid (the People's Temple choice for cyanide delivery) involved. They seem to be sufficiently happy with the brand to have 3 in the family. If these cars sucked, if the driving experience was negative (from driving to software to charging availability), Hemi seems to have the resources to dump their Teslas like last year's sneakers and he'd have not written about his positive experience.

What, specifically, do you disbelieve in his post? Give him a chance to respond.

In the list of most recalled car models, tesla has 4 models in the top 5.
It cost time and money to test so lets get it out there and let the public test it . If too many people get hurt then we can fix the problem.
