Well with banning gas eng, Diesel is i think not included in this ban. But if u look at it as a way to get the Oil industry to not make their billions on us, An like that Gov said, more new companies would evolve $$ would go down, cos everybody wants to make a buck. Remember back when they wanted cars to get 20MPG. Look at what we got now. some avg getting 30+, The technology is their just not applied. Few yrs back saw thing about all elec 18wheeler, Remember when the Prius was getting 45 MPG. What's it at now.The new Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid has the best gas mileage, getting up to 55 city mpg and 53 highways mpg, as well as up to 133 MPGe.

It's 13 years away, and they're not actually banning all ICE cars. They still allow plug-in hybrids. Given all that's changed with EVs in the last 7 years it seems quite likely the technology will be up to the job in 13 more years. They probably won't even need that exception for PHEVs.

Yep. And it only affects vehicles up to 8500 GVWR. So some half tons and all 3/4 tons, 1 tons are unaffected.

It looks like in 2035 you will have a choice. Either pay $100,000 to drive a compact EV or pay $50,000 to cruise the streets in a nice big diesel pickup. Which will you choose?

Curious where you got the 100,000 for a compact EV. Right now they are 28000 ish.

The point is, given what it seems to be the new law, Californians will be driving either compact EVs or huge pickups in 2035.

You seem to forget that it was California that passed CAFE standards 10 years before the Federal government. That leadership forced the automotive industry to work feverishly to reduce carbon emissions. It worked. The rest is history. Todays vehicles emit far less pollution than ICE vehicles of 30 years ago. This step by California is just the next logical step. The technology has not advanced to the point where it would satisfy the naysayers. It’s not there yet, but California is saying : “Stop looking in the rear view mirror”. IMO, this is a step in the right direction. Technology will advance faster than most people believe. And by 2035, the Feds will join California in driving the new CAFE standard: no ICE. Rving will survive, and there will be surprising new motorized rv chassis, and tow vehicles. Hope I live to see it.

Just wait until your social score isnt high enough to get the credits needed to charge your EV as often as you need. The government will shut your vehicle off until you get your social score higher. Get ready to buy what your told you can buy, travel where you are told you can travel and contribute to the collective until you are no longer deemed necessary.
