Electric class eight semi tractors being tested in Los Angeles

Electric class eight semi tractors being tested in Los Angeles. A nationwide soft drink distributor is testing freightliner built all electric class eight tractors. Here are the specs. Driy wright 24,000 pounds, range 170 miles, eight hours to recharge fully . Interestingly, The 10,000 pound battery has caused a decrease of load capacity in the trailers by approximately 1/4. Just for comparison sake the old diesel tractors had a range of 800 miles and could be refilled with diesel in about 15 minutes. Just some food for thought!

Add to that the increased cost, increased fossil fuel consumption at the power plant, and increased pollution generated at the power plant and during battery manufacturing and it becomes difficult to see how an electric semi (or an electric ev) has any value other than as a publicity stunt.
