Hybrid Class A - Would you buy it?

According to Thor - 500 mile estimated range, low emissions gas engine to keep the battery going.

https://camperreport.com/thor-test-v...s-a-motorhome/

Lots of other interesting electric enhancements as well.

Then again, they actually have to commit to building and selling them, but they are suggesting 2025.

No way. I’m not even interested in buying any electric vehicle as a daily driver.
It’s still too soon in the game for range, dependability and an established infrastructure.

Love my gas Triton V10 engines thanks.

I'm watching to see how the prices on these are and what the floorplans are. I'd very much like an RV like that and think an ERev (series hybrid) is a good approach.

I’m more of a diesel guy…. But yes I love my hybrid car, so would be very interested in a hybrid RV.

Just the other day I was in lots of stop and go driving after a huge pileup developed after a wreck, and a hybrid would be perfect for that…..also I hate the huge dust storm while driving dirt roads in campgrounds caused by engine cooling fan…..another problem solved by using low speed electric motors to move the wheels. The large battery pack could also power the rig while parked, eliminating house batteries

We love our EV car, but not tempted to replace our F150 with an electric truck. Just can’t take us camping everywhere we want to go, yet. Three years from now, that may change.

I might be interested in a hybrid RV someday. But not yet. And especially not from Thor. They can’t even build a decent regular RV.

Maybe 10 years from now, but how expensive and reddilly will electricity be by then?

Sounds misleading in that I don’t think it’s a true hybrid. It’s an electric truck chassis and they added (jerryrigged?) a small gas engine. That’s not the same as my hybrid Maverick or hybrid Tucson. Also it plugs in so at best it’s a plug-in hybrid. I might be interested in a true hybrid designed from the ground up rather than an electric truck with a lawn mower attached.

Yes, I'd buy an hybrid vehicle..............but only one with conventional rear wheel drive and two electric motors in the front hubs

Why bother with hybrid?

Not sure I'd go for a hybrid. We have the technology for pure BEV (battery electric vehicle) even in this size and vehicle format. A BEV is a lot simpler to build, has way less components with way less maintenance and fewer parts to breakdown and wear. THAT is appealing to me, because who wants to work on their rig on a trip or vacation?

Not sure that is a real class A anyway, it looks more like a large B+ to me.

I've been seeing a few of the Brightdrop trucks around here. They look pretty neat, very quiet, and it looks like this chassis might be based upon it, but that's just my guess.

Very cool. Regenerative braking is awesome and puts energy back into the batteries. Saves on brake jobs.
145 kWh is a fairly large battery pack which is about double a Tesla. Having a gas range extender is a smart way to extend range and keep the battery pack weight lower.
800 volt architecture means it should charge quickly.

We own a Chevy bolt and it is a great car. Over 200 miles of range with a fuel cost of around 4 cents per mile. Quiet and plenty quick. The one pedal driving spoils you as you rarely have to touch the brakes.
Have never used public charging as we charge exclusively at home.
We added solar and battery to our home and with our time of use electric rates our utility bill is less than when we didn’t have an electric car!

Definitely a Class A. It’s the Axis/Vegas body. It may be a bit small but it’s a niche for those who don’t want to drive 40’ or 102” wide. 94” wide is less stressful on the road and I can park it next to the garage (over 96” won’t fit).

I'd rather have a "real" engine then a range extender, same amount of service, but twice the torque on my axle.

Going for a split propulsion system is my line of thought, conventional rear wheel drive plus electric hub motors.
