The first RIVIAN EV half ton rolls off the assembly line beating ford, Chevy & Tesla

Looks like Rivian is out of the gate first. Nice looking little truck and some neat camping accessories and options.

And they did it with the backing of Ford!

I'm not sure a Rivian can be classified as a 1/2 ton pickup. Surely it can tow/haul as much as a half ton but going by size it's only a midsize pickup like a Tacoma.

I知 actually not sure how those classifications works. But it does look smaller than say something like an F150. I知 sure the dimensions are on their website. Someday when I知 bored I値l compare them to an F150 for size. Good looking truck though. Some pretty neat options for the camping adventure bunch.

I sent them an email asking where the nearest showroom is for us in BC and apparently it will be next spring before we can see them here. We are not really potential customers at this point but I do like this kind of innovation so looking forward to seeing one.

I'm sure it will be at the next Vancouver car show. A car show is the best place to start your shopping. Where else can you see all the manufacturers side by side?

That would be nice. If the weather is good it痴 about a 5 hour trip for us depending on traffic. Lots of mountain passes between us and there though and they are already getting snow. Hopefully they do it late enough in spring when the roads are good. I hate long trips in snow.

I saw a couple on the road last year, like their pre production stage ...

I'd compare it more towards the Honda as far as size and the one piece body/bed

Don't know about the chassis and suspension

I wouldn't say it beat them, the thing has been in development for years and years. The electric F150 was only announced months ago and will be here very soon. No comment on the vaporware tesla "thing".

Curious as to why you think the Cybertruck is vapour wear. Do you think it won稚 be built?

It's one thing to come out with a big idea and build a prototype. It's entirely another thing to redo your assembly line and get it into production. That costs billions and takes years. I have seen a lot of stories about all sorts of new EVs but most of these vehicles will never make it to market.

Sure. But as far as Tesla goes they have a pretty good reputation of eventually producing what they say they will. Just need to slide that timeline a few years. LOL. .

Once they get a couple more factories online I’m sure there will be some new products hitting the market.

It might get built one day but even Elon admits it'll probably be a flop. Have you noticed nobody shows concept cars anymore? Its because when they'd show them everyone gets excited but its 5 years before you'll be able to actually buy one and by then the sizzle has burned out. Chrysler made a rule years ago that anything they show will be ready for purchase within 30 days and that's pretty much the status quo for all - except Tesla. They have old cars that aren't even built and nobody even knows when they will be.

As far as their truck, its uni-body (no frame) and looks stupid IMO. Has a lot going against it versus real body on frame trucks.
