There is a documentary by Michael Moore that has not been widely distributed that disputes some of the backstory about the new green movement. For example, the making of ethanol (fermented corn for use as a gasoline additive) uses coal as a cooking fuel. A wood fired power plant uses large diesel equipment to chop down and cut up the wood for fuel, coal fired power plants used to power GM's "new" electric vehicles.
The use of existing infrastructure to build and power these new EV's will result in a neutral net gain. If people returned to bicycles and horses then there might be a measurable impact but at a cost to the norms of society. Besides, when you stop selling gasoline and collecting taxes then the cost of operating an EV's suddenly increases to compensate for the shift from petro fuels.

The EV revolution has similarities to the ethanol revolution. Both are based on politics rather than science. We now see the ethanol revolution as an ecological disaster. Will the EV revolution turn out the same way?

Somebody is banning gasoline? Where?

- Will electric cars have a higher sales tax and yearly registration then existing gas cars?

This is well stated. States & the Feds will need to raise the necessary funds to maintain our state highways and interstate highways. I will use the term Motor Fuel Tax instead of Gas Tax. Diesel fuel has .06 more Federal Motor Fuel tax than gas has.
EVs will have to pay their fair share of the costs of maintaining our highway system. That cost should not fall disproportionately on the backs of those who still need to power their vehicles with an ICE.
I can visualize a per mile charge based on the weight of the vehicle or a metered source that charges by KWH or fraction there of. JMHO

Many states are already collecting extra fees on EV's already.

And in many circumstances can be added with no connection to the grid, no permits, no construction etc. Just have a flat piece of parking lot, a cell phone and a credit card and it will be delivered to your location. 10 minute set up. (Make sure you have a 30,000 dollar limit).
2. Hydrogen is expensive. More expensive than gas or diesel. And the expense of fuel stations is exhorbitant whereas charge stations are relatively cheap. Literally 25 to 50 times as much depending on what you read.

An insight on the Hydrogen production front: https://douglaspud.org/Pages/Renewab...ect-Award.aspx
Just one way to efficiently produce hydrogen. In this case, wasted spring river runoff is converted to hydrogen...
