ac unit or generator
I'm having an issue when running the ac while hooked up to the honda eu3000. Sometimes it will run for hours other times a few minutes, ac and generator will stumble and the ac will quit. We've had the generator for years and never had a problem, replaced the fan motor last year on the ac unit. Just have the ac and fridge running, so its not overloaded. Trying to figure out if i have a problem with the ac or the generator.

You state that only the AC & refrigerator are running. You should also have a converter to power the 12V side of the house. It also charges the batteries and can draw 10 AC amps.

Yes, plus the converter is running. What I'm getting at is there is nothing more that we are running that we normally have running. What I don't know is it the ac unit or the generator?

Try some sea foam in the EU3000. Could have just a bit of buildup in the main jet. That will lean it out under high load.

What refrigerator? absorption on propane? 12V compressor? .....it's possible that a 13,500 BTUH AC unit, converter charging the batteries and a 12V compressor fridge could draw more than an EU3000 can put out. How's the charge on the batteries? I realize that you've had the same system for awhile without issue but it helps sometimes to look at the whole picture. I've never had an issue with my EU3000i powering my 13,500 BTUH AC unit with my fridge on propane. If it's not overloaded, I'd suspect an issue with the AC first.

I guess if I try plugging into shore power, not the generator, and see if the ac unit works correctly. If it does I guess its the generator?

try that and also try running the generator without the AC running; either should tell you where the problem is. Let us know what you learn.
good luck

I've run just the fan on the ac unit and its fine, its just when the ac is used. Microwave works fine, everything else works fine.

Did you ever go just with shore power and the AC works fine?
Can you run the refer on propane and then test the ac only with the genny?
Divide and conquer.

So it seems that maybe the ac unit starts up and runs okay. It cycles off. Then it tries to start again, but the head pressure is still high. So the genny stumbles trying to start an AC unit that is failing, perhaps because of a weak Capacitor. The Genny is old too. You don't say how many lifetime hours it has.

I'm going to try to go to a campground next week and try plugging into shore power and see how it works. The refer runs off the generator which runs off of a gas powered honda eu3000, I don't know what you mean about running on propane?
