Dinette layout

What's your thoughts/preference on dinette style in the TC?

Wife and I have been looking to move from a TT to a TC, and one thing we would kind of like to have is a little bit of room to 'lounge' inside when the weather/conditions aren't great outside.

In the past we've had the 'face-to-face' style dinette in a couple TTs, and one with a big 'U' shaped dinette. Not a huge fan of the latter, but really not wild about the latter at all. Kinda liking the style that has kind of an 'L' shape to it, so when the table is taken down it's almost more like a couch. Haven't had a chance to actually sit in one configured like that, so it's possible we might end up hating it. Unfortunately, none of the local dealers carry any TCs at all, and used ones are pretty far and few between around here as well. As we've been 'shopping around', looking on CL, etc. it seems pretty random as to whether any particular brand/model/year has this 'L' style dinette - unless there is some method to the madness that we're missing?

In one TT (our most recent), we pulled out the dinette and replaced it with a nice table and chairs (still had couch and chairs for other seating options). Found that (at least in TTs) the dinettes aren't all that complicated - or well constructed - and easily within my capability to rebuild/reconstruct (have a small woodworking shop).

We were considering whether it'd be doable to remodel the dinette... but the campers that have the L style seem to have a longer, if narrower, area available compared to the ones with the face-to-face dinettes.

How big of a priority do you place on the dinette layout when shopping for a TC?

I have the face to face dinette in my Arctic Fox 811. It’s ok but isn’t very comfortable for sitting for any length of time. I live in a very rainy area and there are times that I like to just go inside, stay warm and dry and watch a movie or something.
I would love to have a different layout. Something with a smaller table and an L-shaped sofa would be nice... unfortunately I’m not skilled enough to rip out the dinette and rebuild. There is a furnace located under one of the benches.... I do like the storage under the benches though.

We now have a u-shaped dinette and a loveseat in our Host. When we had an Arctic Fox, we found it was sometimes more comfortable to lounge on the dinette when it was made into a bed due to the upright seating of the booth.

My old camper ( Skyline Weekender ) had the U shaped dinette and was a pain to get in and out of because of the table support leg. Newer camper ( AF990 ) has the facing dinette which was one of the main reasons we bought it. Would not of bought a camper with a U shaped seating area. I do like the sliding table that comes with the Northern Lite rigs.

Check out the Host Yukon, Mammoth, or Everest. They have several variations on dinette & lounge seating.

we have an 811 with the new (to the 811) rollover sofa. It's a great option. It's very comfortable to sit and watch TV or eat in, and gives a lot of room to get into and out of the camper with the slide in if you store the table somewhere out of the way during transit.

I'm a "U" dinette guy.
Especially in a non-slide camper (like say a NorthernLite).
