Ford 7.3 gas
Hello all. Thanking about getting a Ford F3 50 Dually with the 7.3 gas to haul my big foot truck camper just want to know if anybody is doing something like this and how they’re making out with the gas motor with power and gas mileage

There is a ford trucks forum with a 7.3 gasoline section that gives as much information on mpg as I can find. I think single rear wheel fords with the 7.3. and slide in camper gets about 11 mpg. I think that I read somewhere that someone with a chassis cab and camper with 7.3 got 8 mpg.
Hopefully someone with real world experience will weigh in with more reliable information.

This is a new engine to the market place and there is going to be limited experience in any of the vehicles it is used in. It will be interesting to see what people get. I would think it will be in the same range of fuel usage as the 6.8L V-10. It takes a certain amount of gasoline to develop so much power. With current internal combustion engine technology the efficiency can only be pushed so far.
In looking over the specs and design in general, it does appear to be a robust engine.

[ATTACH]327078[/ATTACH This is my 2019 F 250 super duty with the 6.2. I drove to Florida this past winter and got 10.5 MPG running at 70 mph to 75.

I've got a 2021 F350 DRW with 7.3 gasser. Towing 7,000# Grand Design Imagine 2150RB. We are on a trip from Texas Gulf Coast to Yellowstone and now returning through Utah and Colorado. I averaged 9.9 mpg so far. Very happy with power and holding speed going downhill is no problem on 6% grades.

I have the 7.3 F450 cab and chassis with a flatbed. I don't use this for hauling my truck camper but we do use it for hauling heavy marine parts and also a 40 foot goose neck trailer This 7.3 with the 10 speed transmission is a pulling machine. I'm very happy with its performance. Working , we average 10 mpg. So far, no problems or issues. It just works.
Conversely, I have a F350 diesel truck as my every day driver. I also use this to haul my Livin Lite truck camper. Camper loaded and running 65 mph, average 12 mpg. Light truck, I average 16-18 MPG (city and hwy)

It is my 'opinion' that the things that could possibly go wrong with a modern emissions compliant diesel far outweigh any shortcomings of a gas powered truck.
As a Ram/Cummins owner I have learned about things like "Limp Mode", repair parts wait times, and blindingly expensive repair costs. My last truck was an F250 with a gas engine. Simple, cheap, reliable, and very repairable on the road.
My 2016 Cummins Longhorn gets 11.5 MPG at its best and diesel fuel is typically more expensive than gas so for my light hauling needs (a 3800 Lb camper) you can be sure my next truck will be gas... and most likely a Ford.

Do some searching on this engine. Been lots of spark plug and wire issues.

Really?? I follow all the Ford 7.3 forums and is the FIRST mention I've heard of that. This engine is brand new, just came out on the market. Wire issues??

Wow! Something is definitely wrong with your engine. Guys I know with the new Cummins trucks are reporting close to 20 mpg empty. Heck, my old 2004 Dodge Cummins dually gets 18 mpg empty and 13-14 mpg hauling a Bigfoot camper and towing a Jeep on a trailer.
