I suggest a seat cover like tcg showed in Post #10
We had one in our truck. Worked very well.

I carry several of the clothes lint cleaners and run them over the seats and carpets once in awhile, by the way your husband sounds like a cold heart'd callous person. You get an exhaust leak or run thru hot weather you are eventually going to kill your dog, regardless if you have fans back there, they don't deserve that. Make your husband ride in the back or put them in a kennel with the top open. You never said what breed the dog was.

Wow, you should probaly give your dogs up for adoption before you kill them.
I cant believe you actually or are thinking about putting your dogs under a snugtop.
Come on, that's like saying how to keep your dogs cool locked up in a car

Sugtop has pet screens on their sliding windows as an option. Combined with opening the slider window between cab and truck bed your dog will be just fine.

Surely you realize, seeing that you live in Cali, that a dog can still bake in the heat even with the side sliders and the cab window open. Despite the airflow the dog suffers from dehydration. Kind of like sitting in front of a 70 mph fan at 110 degrees.

Some people should not own dogs .... would you put your child in the back of the truck and ask how to keep them cool????
Or.. how about you let the dogs ride in the cab and let's figure out how to keep your husband cool in the bed. Good with that?

This is how our Bailey rolls. You sit under the tonneau cover, thank you very much.

Any place I go, my dogs would go. The little dog (18 lbs) went from the back seat, to my lap for awhile, back to the back seat.. The mid size dog (25 lbs) did the same as they rotated positions. Doggie beds on the back seat and two coolers on the floor with blankets made the whole back area flat.
Did you and husband pick the dog or did you marry your husband after you had the dog...never mind, it does not matter. The dog rides in the cab not in the bed of the truck.
On many Ford trucks, cars and SUV's with the key pad entry you can leave the vehicle running with A/C or heat on depending the situation, and still lock the truck with the keys in the ignition. You hit the two bottom numbers or right most numbers simultaneously to lock the vehicle. Then when you come back you can type the access code to unlock the running vehicle.

We travel with standard poodles that average 55 pounds each.
Why don't they sit up front with us?
Well....
1. there are only two seats
2. we have three poodles
3. if an airbag deploys, it can kill a dog
Other than that, it seems like a find idea.
Instead, we bought a Class-C MH.
Our first upgrade was a baby gate. They can lean in, but they can't get into the cab. They do have the whole rest of the coach to themselves including the dinette and the corner queen.

No way the dog should be hauled in an un-ventilated truck bed. It can get as hot as a parked car in summer time. You not only have to worry about the sun, but also the hot drivetrain/ exhaust, because truck beds do not have insulation like the floor of a car. It should not be considered.
