Just saw this on Lance's website today. I hate to say it, but I'm NOT impressed.

In a nutshell... it's 11'6" (not 11'11" like the 1161). Its floorplan is nearly identical to the 1161, just with the MAX features like more headroom, basement storage, etc.

I just don't see the point. I much prefer the 1181.

Bummer... I was really looking forward to seeing this one.

Oh, the 881 is out to... in fact, it was at the RV show on Sunday that I went to, and it didn't even occur to me to check it out.

You should have.....

For the 6 foot boxers The 881 is nice Everything the 981 has to offer including its smaller wet bath, that and the 881 shaves a little off the dinette to make it all fit. Both negatives.

IMHO What makes the Max's stand out is the rear kitchens along with the full wall slide out. More floor space and there is glass on all three sides.

When you are in a Max facing the rear,(cept the 1191 side door) you have a very nice view outside. Windows to you left, right, and center. Very nice.

RobG, after having recently inspected both the "old" Lance 1161 and the new Max 1191, I believe the point of the 1191 is the "state of the art and science" of the side-door TC!

As you pointed out, the 1191 incorporates most of the new features of the Max series into the 1161 side-door floorplan: aluminum frame construction, greatly increased tank capacities, more headroom, larger bath, centralized utilities, etc. I believe the shorter length of the 1191 is also a good thing: moves the center of gravity forward (in the case of my '05 F-350 dually, almost over the rear axle).

I see the new Max 1191 as the leader among the limited field of side-door TCs!

One of the advantages of the "old" Lance 1161 side-door model, IMO, is the availability, from Lance, of a custom "Family Room" (curbside screen room). The screen room effectively doubles the undercover floorspace while providing a relatively cool, bug-free, outdoor environment during hot summer evenings.

You can imagine my disappointment when I received the following reply from Lance about the availability of the "Family Room" on the new Max 1191:

"...We do not offer a Family room for our Lance Max series and in fact we will be discontinuing them for all models. There were some issues
with them that could not get resolved and there were some fit issues along with the furnace venting..."

Wonder why Lance can't design and manufacture an "issue-less" screen room that would enhance the utility of their side-door models?
