Newbie needs help with towing question

I have a Ford F-250 Diesel 2006 2WD double cab, 6'10 bed, GVW 9800 lbs, front GAWR 4850 lbs, rear GAWR 6100 lbs, combined occupancy wt. 2711, tires LT 275/65 R18, load rane E. I would like to put a Lance Lite 2005 845 on this truck (sticker on campuer listed dry weight as 2533 lbs, paper work and Lance said wt 2190 with center of gravity at 49"). Can I pull my aluminum horse trailer (loaded 5000 lbs)? Will this work both safely and legally?

The truck has to carry both the camper weight and the tongue weight of the trailer. A 5000 lb trailer is going to place around 750 lbs on the hitch, so that means your truck is carrying at least 2190 + 750 = 2940 lbs in addition to whatever passengers and gear you have onboard. That probably exceeds the trucks Payload Capacity, GVWR or rear axle GAWR (or more likely all three).

Welcome aboard. It's good you are asking questions. A few years ago we spent a couple months in the SW in our 8 1/2' camper. The tag on it says it weighs 2100 with propane & water. On the way home I weighed the rig. We were 1000lbs over the GVWR of our 1T Dodge dully. I knew I had some exsess weight but I still don't believe it was that much. My advice to you is weigh the rig when youi are loaded to travel with all passengers etc. You may be very surprised.

Will the "center of gravity at 49" put it behind the axle center line? If so that could be big time trouble especially with a trailer. You sure don't want the front tires to be light on the road.
