Palomino problem

A friend of mine has purchased a Palomino with the top extension, when extending, the front seems to bind and then all of a sudden pops loose, it seems to stress the jacks more than it should.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Does it have the rack and pinion setup if so look for dirt in the rack and then look for something locking up the pipes that support the top
