Truck camper pic

Finally figured out how to post a pic. This is what I have and struggle with sway. I have decided to add air bags and rancho 9000 adjustable shocks on the back to help with the sway problem.Click image for larger version

As you can see ,it does set down a little in the back, but not so bad the bumper is dragging the ground

That looks like something that a dolly under the back end is needed, no joke intended.

Did the same to my duramax, also added extra leaf, and timbren springs. Handled way better after those mods.

Long box camper on a short box truck , the center of gravity is too far to the rear .

JMHO: Have the rig weighed , I'd say you'll find you're over weight on the rear axle and probably over loading the rear tires.
Also taking weight off the front axle the way you are can lead to dangerous handling at highway speed.

Thanks for your response, but the camper is made for shoes bed truck. Ram beds are 6’4” instead of 6’6” like the other manufactures. Camper is a real lite 890 sbrx. Sb stands for short bed.the rear tires are 10 ply and set at 80 psi. The 2000 lbs camper should be far under the weight the tires are rated for. You are correct that the truck is sagging in the rear and causing me issues. I am hoping that the info I have gathered here and elsewhere ,airbags will solve my problems. I am not looking to buy another truck ,but a different camper may be on the list, that is more suited for my truck.

The way it is squatting, I think you need more truck. Does the truck have the camper package suspension? What does the slide in camper weigh and what is the payload capacity of the truck?

You can prop up the back with helper springs or air bags and add heavier anti-roll bars, but it will not increase the payload capacity of the truck.

Congratulations on the new camper. As for the weight I travel with a 2011 F150
with a Northstar TC 850 I am within 100lbs of the sticker and have added Firestone airbags. The DW and I traveled 3000 miles last winter with no problems.

Nice truck. It looks clean. I'd monitor those straps underneath the truck. Chafing can happen from vibrations, tear the fabric and cause the strap to break loose.

Your plan to add air bags and better shocks in think is a good one and should help a lot.

Just an FYI - the bed on a 2017 F-250 short bed is 6.75', or 6' 9".

Thanks. The ratchet binders are just temporary to get it home and try it out. I do have regular binders to tie the camper down, but have not got the brackets on my truck . I will have to do a little fabricating to make them work. Mean while I will keep a eye on the straps.

Maybe just the angle of the picture, but the cab over gap looks kinda tight.

Unfortunately , not all the payload is available at the rear axle .

Get your loaded axle weights and and check against , the manufacturers RAWR and the tire load capacity.

I would agree with getting it weighed.
I had an AF811 for 10 years on a Duramax 2500 short bed... and after getting it weighed boy was I surprised especially by the time we were loaded for the trips.

Ended up putting bags on it which helped a lot, and upgraded the tires to G rated tires because we were over the weight of the stock tires. Not to mention it scared the crap out of me braking cause my stock brakes sucked..

Other people recommended stable loads, I never put a set on but bet it would have helped.

I loved that camper and the convenience of it but I sure sleep a lot better these days towing my TT....
