What truck capable of a truck camper and 25ft TT at once

Hi,

What truck could safety tow a 25ft TT with a truck camper attached, not sure yet on the whether the truck camper is a pop up.

TT would be left in State Forest campgrounds and use TC for touring, overnights and ski trips

We currently run a 37ft pusher with a Jeep toad so used to a long train.

I am ok of it had to be a duallly but would prefer SRW.

Thanks,

Dually due to camper weight and additional tongue weight of TT

*SRW doable but camper would need to be under 3000 Gross

At a minimum, you will want a 3500 (GM / RAM) or F350 (Ford) dually (for the stability). A 450 would be better for what you are wanting to do.

Thanks both,

Would need a huge truck so.

Maybe a DP or Super C towing a f250 with a folding truck camper.

Well if your thinking that way, perhaps maybe looking at a jeep gladiator with a pop-up might work.

It seems to be the newest trend.

Don't know about that one, I remember reading about a guy pulled a popup on an off road trip and bent the frame on his brand new $60,000 Jeep Gladiator

Well its enough of a market 5 company’s are designing models just for them to fit the weight and extra short bed.

Well, I think if I could afford an overpriced glorified Wrangler, and a specialized camper to fit it I could afford a real camper (motorhome) and real Jeep to tow behind it. but, that's me.

If $$$ was not an issue, I would get a ram 5500 chassis cab. Put a flat bed on it. Put on the camper. Build side boxes to fill the voids on the side. Then hook up the TT and go.

It's going to come down to the pin weight of your travel trailer and the wet weight of the truck camper. I'd get a F450 since it has the running gear of a F550, even though it's artificially constrained by the Class III truck payload.

My Ram 5500 carries a 3-ton camper and tows a 4-ton trailer at the same time without issue.

You would need to get a chassis cab truck most likely

An F450 pickup is only rated at 14,000 GVWR for the dually, just like the F350 pick up. Two of my friends just bought new an F350 and an F450, both four wheel drive. The F350 has 711 pounds more available payload. Both are considered Class III trucks.

I just ordered a 2022 RAM 4500 chassis cab. GVWR =16,000, for some reason, that the dealer couldn't explain why it is down from 16,500 on the 2021. A RAM 5500 chassis cab has a GVWR of 19,000.

With today's heavier truck campers, like the Arctic Fox 990 they take an F350 one ton dually right to the GVWR limit and you have almost no payload capacity left unless you run with no potable water. That is why I ordered a RAM 4500. I'm expecting my payload to be 6,800 pounds after I install a AL-RD aluminum 9' 4" CM Truck Bed on 60" chassis cab. RAM says the payload on this truck is 8020 pounds (four wheel drive diesel) before you install a bed.

Good luck. The truck camper guys don't necessarily tell you the truth on the dry weight of the campers and what that dry weight includes. I'm assuming my 2022 990 is going to be around 4525 wet. (Using their options weights and 53 gallons of potable water and 30 pounds of propane)

My man!

Thinking of doing the same thing. Not sure why folks are calling for 350 and 450 rigs, you should be able to get the job done with a 250 if you get a pop up in the 1100-1400lb range. Payload capacity is ~4200lbs, tongue weight on a 25ft TT shouldn't be more than 500-600lbs, and you can tow 15-20klbs.

1. You will find an enclosed shell at 1500 lbs that may have cooking facilities, but don't expect a bath or toilet.
2. Most 250/2500 trucks weigh 7000 lbs or more and are typically under 10,000 lbs GVWR. You will find most have payload under 3000 lbs until you go to the next higher truck class.
