Cinco de Mayo

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after it's stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of Mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was lost.

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting it's delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe on this day. That day we now know as Cinco de Mayo....and now you know the rest of the story.

Cinco de Mayo, the complete story. Had the Mexican forces not defeated the French invaders this day, the outcome of our Civil War might have been very different. Latinos in the U.S. backed the Union to further the cause of Mexico.

Ray not quite the true story. Latinos in New Mexico, Arizona and California stayed out of the conflict. The vast majority in Texas supported the Confederate States of America and almost single handed won the last battle of the war between the states. The latin population pretty much hunkered down and let the gringos fight it out. In Texas they were loyal to the south under guidance from the feared Texas Rangers.

Yeah, I alway say that I've learned more here because of off-topics post, but this is like in the same universe, but on another planet, off-topic.
