getting older

I realized the other day I am getting to the point where I need to finish the book I am writing and things I should have done.
I'm going to call it "My ought to Biography".

I realized I was getting old 20 years ago. Friends use to visit with their 1 year old. I use to change its diaper. Lost track of them for years, bumped into the daughter and she had her little one with her. Of course diaper needed changed. While I was doing that it hit me that I use to change the mother's diaper. Boy I got old that day.

Wow, that's definitely an "I feel old" moment, @dustyone! Time sure does fly. In my case, those nephews and nieces I used to babysit now have their own sons and daughters. Sometimes, they're asking me to babysit their little ones. It makes me feel old, but lucky at the same time.

It's hard NOT to realize I'm getting older...my first-born grandson got married a couple of months ago, my only granddaughter just graduated from college and got a job teaching school and my youngest grandson will graduate from high school this coming year.

Another reminder - when I get down on my hands and knees to pull weeds in our gardens.

And - when I roll out of bed in the mornings and it takes a bit longer to become upright.

And - if I ever try to "jog" or run, it's a brutal reminder.

Oh...and...when I look in the mirror. At a glance, I still see that 30-year old guy, but then if I look closer, reality sets in and I wonder who's that old man I'm looking at.

And, of course...the fact that this month I will have been married to my bride for 55 years.

But, I'm so very thankful for my overall good health, mobility and sanity (though that is sometimes called into question). My wife and I are truly blessed.

Wait, it gets worse when you stop “getting older” and realize that you ARE old.

I’ve decreased my coffee consumption for the past few years. I find that first look in the mirror each morning to be a jolt worth 2-3 cups of joe.

My wife is always saying "stop being the get of my lawn guy" and my brain and body are constantly in an argument about weather I can or can't still do certain things

I realized I was getting old when the gal at Great Clips started trimming my ear hair.

I woke up one morning and felt zero gravity, as when happens when the plane stops ascending steeply and turns steeply down. This is not entirely a quip -- I felt it.

But it's the rocking chair that kills. The Executive Department, now 83, goes to a vigorous exercise class six days a week, has been modeling at a boutique ladies' clothing store, and was recently recruited to work there part-time. At 80 I'm still able to do things I shouldn't be able to, probably because I've refused to believe I'm not the 47-year-old stud that I self-identify as. (As long as men can self-identify as little girls, screen doors, artichokes -- why can't I identify as a 47-year-old stud? Works fine until I'm called upon to be one.).

You identify as a 47-year-old stud? How many times have you been nailed?

Any dry rot or termites? Splinters?

Perry Como singing about getting older. You know I'm old because I used to watch The Perry Como Show back in the last century.
