Sigh, my Dad did a smilar thing one time when we were camping. It had rainied all night and the fire would not start. Dad (bless his heart) got the five gallon can out of the boat, spread gas on the fire (what happens when gas is poured on wet ground) and proceeded to "light" our fire. Since gas is lighter than water it spread in a 30' circle out from the fire pit. When Dad struck the match he was engulfed in flame but it burned to quick he escaped (luckily) without permanent damage (if you don't count his ego). The good news is the that fire did light.
Don't try this at home!

OK...call me a boy scout, but if we're using gas to start a fire, we ALWAYS pour a 'fuse' about 10 feet away and light that...still a big "Boom", but alot farther away! Of course, we don't quite have the wood stack THT big!

If you don't feel the ground shake, if the logs don't relocate, then you didn't apply enough gas.

I always give the know it all in the family two sticks, pour myself and my wife a good wine, and sit back and wait. Go through a fair amount of wine that way.
