How to change the oil in your F-53 V10.
First, pull out the used oil from last time and immerse your hands in it at least up to your wrists. (it's going to happen anyway)..
Now pour that oil on the driveway so that the cement can start soaking it in for what comes next.
Then put your oil container underneath your rig and decide to put a plastic bag over the axle (which was inconveniently located exactly under the oil plug.).
As the wind comes up the bag will somehow act as a kind of petroleum lawn sprinkler and direct most of the used oil outside of your container. Put back the plug.
As for the filter, (which is also located above the axle).. Notice the hoses in the way and that you'll have to come in from behind after hitting your head on the jacks). And dropping your filter wrench into the used oil.
Remember.. First let the cats out so they can explore through the used oil and act as an ink blot elsewhere on the property.
Lastly, make sure your DW sees the mess so that she can fully appreciate all of your work. (And remind you to go have it done at the shop next time).

Seems about right. Funny but true. Yet I've only done my own maintenance for my entire adult life.

I would like to use this procedure but a couple of questions
Does it work for diesels as well ?
Can I use dogs instead of cats I realize cats climb so I wont get the same coverage.
I can spill some when I transfer from the drain pan to the jugs so hopefully that will make up for using dogs.
I think my drainplug and filter is close enough to the axel to get oil on it so good on that part.
Also my creeper is blue hopefully that wont affect things.

With a diesel I have 5 gallons of oil instead of 5 quarts = easier to make a bigger puddle. My oil filter holds 2 quarts, located 2' above my head when removing it. I do keep a 50# bag of kitty litter/oil-dry handy though.

Everybody has their first time learning how to change oil. Like most things, practice should improve the process.

Can I add that if you grease the chassis at the same time you get to smear grease around the inside of the mh when you have to turn the steering wheel to get to the lower fitting on the drivers side that is blocked by the same friendly axle.
DW really notices this BTW.

Warm (?) oil in the armpit makes one move faster. Don't ask.

FYI a clean oil change is possible.
I maintain a fleet of V10 trucks in a F59 chassis. Bread truck style delivery trucks. Same issue with the front I beam directly below both oil drain plug and filter.
Must haves:
1) a Form a Funnel
2) a drain pan low enough to fit under axle or you must lift axle high enough
3) never ever on a windy day
Once you get used to the set up, no more mess. Only a few drops on a bad day.
Hope this helps.
Rick
