"I wonder if they still allow those on playgrounds?"
Many personal injury lawyers have offered to install them for FREE!
The Mad Hatter's Teacups at Disneyland were even better. If two of you worked together you could generate serious G's! At some point they re-geared them or installed a rev limiter, of course. Then they just removed it altogether.

Gotta be a killjoy around somewhere to spoil a kids fun. The latest to bite the dust was dodge-ball.

The test was if you could stand up in the center, without holding onto the bars, while it spun around at the highest rate of speed the kids could get it going. I was the champ at that at Whitney Elementary School in 1969!

How about that revolving gate? Spin you around so fast that you couldn't stand up when you got off to throw up.

We used to lay a cushman on its side and put the rear wheel on the side of the merry go round and let it rip. We would see who could hold on the longest

Awww, you guys are making me feel SO young!
Next time in my hometown, I'll have to go by that school to see if that go-round is still there. I doubt it. Probably went the same way as the monkey bars & jungle gym which were, in that era, on concrete. Today's playground equipment is surrounded by mulched up rubber.

One big advantage of the old, hard, hot in the summer sun playground equipment over the modern plastic equipment was it was much harder for the neighborhood vandals to set them on fire.[emoji35]

Yeah, but you sure burned your thighs going down a metal slide that'd been baking in the summer heat. Ouch!
