You reminded me of the 24' tri-hull ski-boat I owned. One Sunday afternoon I took my family boating. I forgot to install the motor-well drain plug and the well began to fill with water. I quickly opened the throttle wide open on the 90 HP outboard and turned the wheel over to my wife. Meanwhile I was watching the water siphon out, when the well was nearly empty I reached between motor shaft and hull and installed the drain plug.

That sounds mighty dangerous, but maybe better than sinking, huh?

You are not the only one I did the same thing 1st time.

Next and last time I was alone and had to beach it drain as best I could crank it up head down the lake fast as I could go with the plug out shut it down go back and put in the plug. I did make a really good wake for awhile.
