Some years ago I was sitting in Gatwick Airport outside London. I was just people watching when this older gentleman sat down next to me. Turned out he was a retired American serviceman visitng an old flame he had kept in touch with for years. While we were talking he pulled a pile of postcards out of his carry on and started addressing them. After he addressed
about five of them I noticed something strange. I said, I think you are doing that backwards, you're putting your return address in the wrong spot.

He laughed and said No I am not, I mail these cards without postage so the post office has to send em back where they came from, and the from is going to be where I want it to go. Works evey time! Doesn't cost a dime!

I can only imagine how much he had "saved" in postage going all the way back to WWII.
