You Missed the point...it is either tank or ground water being heated. That water is not 120f, nor is it hot.
Water heater is correct and includes water of all temperatures.
Hot water heater implies cold water cannot be heated, so it is an incorrect term.

OK, i'll bite one more time.
Are all freeways without toll? The name implies that.
Are all Highways high and have no low spots? The name implies that.
Does Baby Oil always come from Babies? The name implies that.
But it's used on babys, does that mean it can't be used anywhere else? The name implies that.
You might own a passenger car. Does that mean you can't carry groceries in it? The name implies that.
You might have a pickup truck. What does it pickup? I have to put things into mine, but it's name implies that it picks something up.
So I guess we have a lot of incorrect terms.

We agree...but this is a thread about one item in particular, the water heater, which most RVs have.
There are many more examples, but few are as problematic as the one I brought up.
First, a person is adding a whole word to the proper name. This wastes time and increases the co2 levels by expelling unnecessary and incorrect words.
Second, it takes a term that was inclusive and makes it exclusive. Without adding the word HOT to the front, all water temperatures are included. Adding the word excludes any water that is not considered hot, and then creates class envy between the varying degrees of hot. It is a term that divides what was once united.
Finally, it is a slant or degradation to the devices true capabilities. It allows a nefarious sales person the opportunity to upgrade one the with optional cold water heater. I would think that water heaters manufacturing lobbies would be more aggressive as to making sure their products true capabilites are not defiled or misrepresented.
The big water heater conglomerate is not what it once was, and I blame it all on the term "Hot Water Heater".

Don't worry, the Water Heater conglomerate (aka: Big Water Heater) is now sponsoring this post.

Ok, got a task for the hot water heater people. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and take photos of all the devices whose label describes them as "Hot Water Heaters" and post the photos here to prove that they are indeed hot water heaters. That means info on the Mfr's label not some sign made up by hot water heater gang members.

Oh no- now we have a problem between "Big" and "Little" water... Is this also known as H2O vs h2o?

Little water has had trouble getting the word out and even more trouble with distribution. Same thing we see in other industries. Once Big Water has a distributor, they force that distributor not not deal with little water.

Red baron
I can see how the term "Hot Water Heater" could be poor terminilogy. { You can deduct a point for my spelling) However...I think anyone would have to be completely stoopid for the term to be "PROBLEMATIC".

Good grief folks there is more to life than hot water.
What about Heavy Water (D2O).
For those unfamiliar HEAVY WATER is used as coolant in fast breeding nuclear reactors. Unlike Little or Big water that is turned into hot water by heating.

That make a nuclear Reactor, a heater for Heavy Water. So we can just call it a Heavy Hot Water Heater.
