2024 solar eclipse Lake Erie

On April 8 2024 a solar eclipse will be happening across the eastern U.S I have been talking to campground owners about the demand for campsites. I suggest that they open early next year for that weekend $$

Unbelievably most don't understand the need for campsites that weekend.

I do have a reservation for that weekend south of Rochester NY. But I would rather stay at Eire Westfield KOA. 3 minutes 39 seconds of total darkness, walking distance to the lake, perfect. The owner will not open that weekend till he gets enough interest for that weekend.

This is a once in a lifetime event. Check out that KOA campground and give them a call.

I have no skin in this game other then I would rather stay at the lake Eire KOA

Many CG in Texas from near Kerrville to Waco to east of Dallas and the state line are already booked full for those days.

I must be in Arkansas outside totality zone on Apr 6 - sister's 50th wedding anniversay, but a travel day Apr 7 and back to my yearly site on Apr 8 to host my kids, grandkids, and a few friends on Apr 8 for 4 min 17 seconds of totality.

We have reservations in Uvalde, TX, pretty close to the Mexican border. I figure I have a better chance for clear skies in a low-humidity area. We saw the last total eclipse in Idaho, and I marked down “April 8, 2024” in my calendar the next day.

Try KOA Chautauqua or, if you are a Class A coach, Hearthside Grove Geneva on the Lake Ohio.

I realize this thread is about booking a particular campground, but the post made me curious to dig deeper. For anyone, anywhere, interested in what they might experience at their location, I found the following website:

https://eclipse2024.org/

You can click on any city and see the time of the eclipse, as well as an animation of what the eclipse will look like - for any city.

I hadn’t been paying much attention to events on April 8, 2024 but this thread and that website made me curious enough to start thinking of where I might like to go. Yes, I know I might be too late for prime locations, but I see from the animation that even less than 100% will be interesting.

OP here. Yes we would love to view the eclipse somewhere in the lower 48, better chance of clear sky. But after living in our motorhome 3 out of the last 6 years we are sticking close to home for the next year or so.

I called KOA Chautauqua and was told because of the possibility of snow they will be closed. The man that answered the phone viewed the last eclipse said it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Try Hipcamp. You may not get hookups but you may increase your odds of finding a place to camp.
