Question Advice for very first trip for newbies!

We are purchasing our very first motorhome, a Class A, and are searching for where to go not too far away from where we live, just north of Houston, for our FIRST TRIP! It would be nice if it was beautiful, nature-filled, gorgeous views with trees, large campsites where you are not right next to other people, but close enough that you can make acquaintances. Views and somewhat secluded would be ideal. Does such a place exist? We drove to a place close to us to take a look and it was junky and people's trailers were next to each other, and it looked like people live there. Does my dream of the perfect place exist? Oh and it needs to have large areas to let our dogies run! Help please! Thank you!

Don't know anything about Texas. But we have some excellent state parks here in Illinois. For our very first trip this past September, we were fortunate to have friends (who have been RVing for several years) invite us to camp with them at a state park just 35 miles from home. We learned a lot and had a wonderful time. Met some new people too. Hope you will have as good an experience as we did.

Just a thought. Have you looked in any of the directories, like Woodall's or Trailer Life?

Cedar Breaks in Georgetown, TX meets most of your wish list items. May be too far for your first trip but when you make a longer trip .........
It's a US Army Corps of Engineers camp ground.

Sounds great. Wish we had some experienced friends too! We just moved from Rhode Island to Texas in the spring!

Just looked it up, and it looks perfect! My son is in the Army stationed at Ft Hood, which is north of there. He could come down too! Thanks so much!

Try using:

RV Park Reviews :: Home

It's a great resource for identifying and reading reviews from fellow RV'ers for RV parks throughout the US, Canada, and I think even Mexico.

Just attended a rally at Rayford Crossing RV Resort in Spring, TX. It is very nice. Just be a little careful on the streets into the park: swing plenty wide on the right turns.

Try Allstays | Campgrounds | RV Parks and you can get some locations of RV parks and many will have a website listed also.

the closer the better and pull thru sites would be helpful. If possible visit the campground first then take the A.
A state park may be your best bet if they can take big rigs
Just take your time and make sure you don't get in a HURRY!
and have FUN

Depending on how far from home you want to go for your maiden voyage, Brazos Bend State Park on the SW side of Houston is very nice and won't be crowded this time of year. The sites are pretty large but you can walk around and talk to other folks; you might even be able to see an alligator.

If you want to get a bit further away, try going to Fredericksburg TX where there are nice restaurants, trendy shops, and the Nimitz Museum. Lady Bird Johnson Park is a great place to stay.

Since you are new to this, I encourage you to take a look at RV Park Reviews :: Home It is the largest non-commercial campground review site; we use it exclusively as our source of recommendations as to where to stay.

You would definitely like the Texas State Parks or Corps of Engineer parks....nature, big sites and nice places to take the dogs out walking! For your requirements, we would recommend you stay away from private campgrounds. Also, you don't need a pull-through spot. Motorhomes are very easy to back up and backin sites typically give you more privacy. Enjoy your new RV, as we're sure you will!
