Alabama State Parks

Does anyone know anything about Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama? I have a trip there soon with the family and was curious if anyone has been there.

LTC,
Our kids live in the Huntsville area and Monte Sano is in there back yard. The park has nice sites and has always been clean. It is hard to believe that the park is almost down town. There is some real good hiking in the area. Take your bikes as well. While you are there ask for directions to "Walls of Jericho" as this is a must see if you are a hiking family. The bigest problem for us is that we have to go through the town trafic after you get off I-565 on Nolan (we are 40' with a toad). Lots to see and do in town. Make sure that you go by the visitors center down town and get your visitors info kit. They always have some kind of discount cupons for something that is going on. Another gem is the Botanical Gardens allow at least 1/2 day. Everyone goes to Huntsville to the Rocket and Space Museum and don't alow enough time. Plan on an all day affair there.

Pamela,

Thank you so much for your reply. My wife and I are taking our kids up there and always heard that Alabama has some beautiful parks. This will be our first time staying in a state park there. I appreciate the insight on the area as well. Sounds like we will run out of time before we run out of things to do.

Dave

Make sure you take the truck route to the campground. The other way has 2 switch backs and is not a fun route with the motorhome.

It is a great park up on a mountian. RV sites aree clean. Be sure to take Truck route. the other way is fine in a toad, but with an RV may be impossible. there is also a camp ground at the space center. Only 30 amp service but nice sites. A terrific dealer is Madison RV for service in event you needed it. They treated us great when we had A PROBLEM.
