Looking to go to Alleghany next summer, if anyone has any reccomendations PLEASE post them. Which sites are the biggest most private etc. Is Quaker quieter than Redhouse? Thanks again

Quaker is much quieter than RH. RH is very tight in spacing .

There is no H its Allegany when referring to the NYS park.

Taking in the sights with our Trolley ...but life is always better under a Palm Tree

If you want quiet, head south into PA to Tracy Ridge CG. Part of the Alleghany nat. forest. no hookups but a dump station. Not far from Red Bridge.

Was at Redhouse the first weekend in Oct. campground was full because of the fall colors. Yes, RH. Will be more busy than Quaker. But I like the paved bike trail around RH lake. I think that is the draw. Both places you need to watch the site you reserve, especially Quaker. Many uneven/ not level sites.

How uneven are they? Also did you ever make it to Winhall Brook in VT last summer?

Briansi52 we went to Winhall Brook a couple of times this past Summer. We love it there. They never did close down early for the bridge replacement. They decided to wait till the season was over and then just replace the decking on the bridge. It is getting harder to get favorite sites there now. It is more and more popular all the time.

we stayed at the redhouse section (I believe) . Our site was on not Stodard Creek, but a small creek on the other side (probably site32)we parked parallel to the Creek- it was gorgeous, quiet & very private. No noise issues, probably because the brook kept us from hearing anything else.

We really could not see anyone else, because of the way the site was set up. We looked right into the forest. Paralell to the water was the key-site was a drive through style.

I know...We live 25 minutes from there and do a ton of last minute mid week camping. We usually do a non electric site much easier to get a site BTW they paved the other side this fall. In some spots creating some big drop offs.
As far as bridge we have seen a few people hit the bridge trying to make that turn. Always go through the dump station it gives you a straight shot.

Redhouse or Quaker? Quaker more so than Redhouse. With that said, There were some newly built showerhouses there at Quaker. The sites 44 to 55 seemed to be on the level side and newly paved. At Redhouse the sites in the "A" loop are all level, but in general are very short and close together. The other loops (B,C ,D and E) are hit and miss where I would estimate only 25% I would classify as level.

Thats right you were doing Jamaica. You were right in the middle of my playground. We live on the backside of Okemo Ski Area.

We stay at Allegany SP at least once, every season. Always at Quaker. We really enjoy it there. Sites are spaced well and never had any problems with leveling. Not perfectly level but pretty close. Only electric hookups.
