Angola State Prison

Just got back from the spring Angola Prison Rodeo. I would highly recommend it for an unusual weekend. Dangest rodeo I've ever seen. Went to the Angola Prison Museum, a must see. Guide was in for murder, and has been there for 32 years. Toured death row ( unused now except for overflow from other prisons ). Ate a very good lunch cooked and served by inmates in The Big House Cafe.
It's a place to visit, but not to stay. Next Rodeo is every weekend in October. Some of the finest crafts made at the prison, and for sale. Well made furniture going cheep ( fine rocking chairs for $75.00 ).
Stayed at the Maxey Care RV park in Morganza La. nice and quiet $25.00 for 50amp pull through.

What costs are incurred? Entry to rodeo, lunch, museum?
Sounds fascinating!

I met my daughter and sister in Louisiana, they had the tickets, but they were $20.00 per day. The museum was free ( they have the tour of the death row inside the prison grounds, but we were invited to join another group for free) they have film history of the prison that is fascinating, and a tour guide that is a treat. There are several campgrounds around the Baton Rouge area. I would suggest seeing the museum on a non-rodeo day.
On rodeo day get there early, gates open at 0900, and not a moment sooner. There isn't anything between St Francisville and the prison. The grounds are huge, and parking is in a field next to the arena. It's a must see bucket list place. Be prepared to spend a little money on the stuff the prisoners made, and plenty of food of every kind. After seeing the rodeo, I know why some people are locked away.
