GEEZ, leave them alone!!! We go thru this with fawns, people need to 'rescue' the babies when they come across them, then later when mom returns she is frantic looking for the baby. I'm starting to think we should euthanize the tourist..... (Just kidding)

Monday, I had to go to Bozeman and back. During the drive up I did not see any Rangers, but coming back at around 4pm, I passed 4 on 191, inside the park. I also seen a couple of Sheriff Deputies driving/parked.

Speed limit in the Park is 55mph on 191. Other sections of 191 can be as high as 70mph.

This might be an overly broad generalization, but I think most folks who grew up in farm country know better, versus most city dwellers who don't understand the massive difference between wild and domesticated animals.

They hand out pamphlets at entrances, have signs posted etc

Folks are just STUPID

Have a friend that built an RV Park. When he opened he had less then 1/2 page of Rules (simple common sense rules)
Following year...the Rules were more then one page.
What changed........Folks are STUPID

We volunteered at a national lakeshore. Our 1st year of 9 seasons we handed out a list of rules on the rear of the campground map and it was double-spaced between the numbering and in large, easy-to-read print. We asked them to read the rules and pointed out a couple major ones.

By the 9th season it was single spaced in a small print because campers kept doing stupid things and it was felt every single thing had to be spelled out. Plus, every camper had to stand there and listen to us read all the rules to them! It cut down on some infractions but not all.

Anyone who's visited Yellowstone knows how stupid tourists are. I'd like to generalize and say a majority of the exceptionally stupid ones are overseas tourists, but American tourists hold their own.

From walking with 15 feet of bison to get a selfie to walking on the thin-crust near hot pots despite the walkway being right there, stupidity at Yosemite knows no bounds.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a park ranger. Now, I don't think I'd have the patience for it.

I just saw on the news, I think last week or the week before, of a 20-something walk up to a bison and try to take a selfie. The bull didn't like it, went after the selfie taker, then started going after the other people, who kept walking by within four feet of him. They were on one of those wood paths.

How many people get gored, year after year, and yet people still walk up to bison and elk like it's a massive petting zoo.

I read this a few years ago on Facebook (or here?) and it is one of my favorite things. Someone was complaining about the complexity of the bear box and wanted to know why they were that way. Someone responded "Because the difference between the smartest bear and stupidest tourist ain't much". I like to add to that "and bear isn't always behind". I am also a fan of "Here's your sign".
Seriously, people do stupid stuff, mind boggling stupid stuff. Especially people who think "Rules are for other people, that won't happen to me".

Don't get me started on stupid campers and tourists. When we were hosting at state and federal parks, we saw the full range of the lack of respect for the parks as well as the wild life. I wish the park LEOs would issue more citations and run the stupid people out of the parks. After some monetary hits, maybe they would be a bit more respectful of nature.

.... sorry to get off track but when hosting at Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park we caught a guy naked taking his nightly bath in the outdoor kitchen sinks specifically for campers to wash their dishes. He was sent packing from the park and we had to stand guard over the sink until the employee could get there to disinfect it thoroughly.

Another time with specific rules not to leave food in the tent a group of scouts were camping and one left his candy bars in the tent. Luckily, he was not in his tent when a bear tore through the tent. Unfortunately, for both the bear and a park ranger, she shot the bear with what she though was a blank. The bear was killed and she lost her job. I've got many other stories but I'll quit.
