Anza Borrego State Park 3-5-20

We spent 3-5 to 3-8 in the borrego palm canyon campground. We stayed in site 115 which was fantastic. It is a no hook up site. We used the Solar Panel and did not need the generator at all. It that site you are close enough to the mountain that you are in the shade this time of year after about 3 PM. Weather was 85, 87, 72, and 68. The wind came up Friday night and laid down Sunday morning for a short while. We live in Lakewood (near Long Beach) and came in on the 10 to the 86 to S22. Its a longer drive than going through Temecula but really easy. First trip to Anza a few years ago, we stayed in Julian at a B&B and drove into the park (no TT), a guy towing a to hauler went by me on the mountain road. 1/4 mile later I passed him and the toy hauler was on its side. It was a windy day so I am sure it was wind and speed. Anyway back to my report. Campground as great. Clean restrooms and showers (50 cents for 2 minutes). The bighorn sheep came right down to the campsite in the evenings. We hiked into the canyon (as far as was open due to fire) on the alternate trail. Hiked at yaqui wells, box canyon, and alcoholic pass. Lots of things blooming, Fish hook cactus, Barrel Cactus, Ocotillo, Cholla, desert Lily, etc. Only downside was the wind on friday night and saturday night made the BBQ a pain.

Thanks for your Report. We stayed at this park 8 years ago and loved it and we hope to return. Too bad about the wind. We had winds come up later during the night and soon learned to pull the awning in each evening no matter how nice it seemed at sun set.

That place is on my list to go soon. Recently designated a dark sky area, IIRC. Need to find a weekend during the Fall/Spring/Winter as just too hot in the summer!

Thanks for the report.

We went for the first time in January. Took the Temecula way from Anaheim Hills and then the long way back which was waaaaaaaaayyyyyyy more relaxing. 38 ft RV & toad on the winding up/down two lane roads wasn't pleasant. The starry nights and relaxing hikes were very enjoyable though and will return again next year. Stayed in a full hookup pull thru and made reservations in October.

We've boondocked on public land many times in Anza Borrego.... one of our favorite places.
