Are We Crazy?

We wanted to go up to the Northeast last year but unfortunately, they didn't want us so we are trying to schedule it for this year. We can't leave until July 25 and have to be back in NC by September 1. Thinking of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. I know we will have to work around campground availability but we are willing to do that. I prefer to have no reservations but I know that won't work this year. Any advice on where to go and what to do? BTW, can’t travel in the fall. It’s football season! Thanks.

You are planning to do 6 states in 6 weeks and that doesn't count the time from New England to NC. That sounds like a pretty ambitious schedule. Add to that you will be missing the month of Sept in the Northeast which can be one of the best for weather and lack of other tourists. ( Campground availability, kids back in school, etc. P.S. You can watch football on tv. )
August will be a very busy month for the campgrounds in the Northeast. Have you made any reservations yet ? Weekends may be an issue.

We have a two month trip planned later this summer with campgrounds we booked in January. If we didn't book them at that time, there is no way we could do our planned itenerary now because many of those camgrounds are full on the dates we want to be in an specific area.

We have tried to find a spot a couple weekends in PA this months and it is about impossible to find any open spots.

Check out the larger CGs.
I bet you can get into many of them from Sunday-Thursday
It’s the Friday and Saturday that might be tough.
Call the CGs, you will be surprised how many have a spot

Can you scale it back to Maine, Mew Hampshire, and Vermont? That would give you some time to smell the pine trees a little better and relax. The other states mentioned are very crowded on the best days without tourists.

Still very much in the planning stages but hope to have most of it finalized by Monday. So far not having a problem with campground availability. Would love to avoid the crowds but sometimes you have to go when you can go! Would love to be there in September but my husband has season tickets for his college football team and it's been two years since we've been able to attend a game so ... Thank you for your suggestions!

Might try the northern end of lake Champlain. We did that last summer and it was great and then up into the Adirondack mins, lots of those northern ny, Vermont, Maine areas depend on Canadians which border is still closed. Went up around lake placid and loved it.

Just returned from Lake Champlain area in VT last week. Stayed at Lake Champlain Adult Campground on Grand Island. Campsite had perfect views of the lake, ferries and mountains. Grand Island has a state park also with camping. Apple Island RV resort is also in the area.

We stayed at Moose River CG in St Johnsbury, VT visiting relatives.

In Maine we have stayed at Shores Hill CG in Boothbay, Camden State park in Camden. Might try Mainstay Cottage and CG in Winter Haven. It is small, so may not be filled up. Bar Harbor is about 45 mins away.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Just made reservations at Shore Hills and have them for the Acadia area and really haven't had much trouble. Now to finish the trip but not today! My mouse arm is tired! Thanks for all of your help. We have a lot scheduled but when we have to travel so far to get there we tend to see as much as we can. We do have a little bit of downtime and extra days worked in so no worry.
