Arizona Camping - Roper Lake

Wondering if anyone has been to this AZ State Park? What do you think of it?

We stayed there a couple of years ago and really liked it. They even have a natural spring hot tub. The sites are fairly large and they have covered picnic tables. Only down side is, be careful of snakes. Of course that is anywhere in the desert. I always joke and say I killed a rattler with my bare hands while I was there but the truth is they were wrapped around the steering wheel and I drove over him.

We love that park - big sites and the hot springs are relaxing. Hope the previous poster didn't scare you off about snakes. :( We've been there numerous times and have never seen one but any time you're in the desert areas the chances are there. Just use common sense. While there take a drive up nearby Mt. Graham for an altogether different kind of beauty. Plus, it'll be cool up there!

We have a winter home in Cochise County AZ about 70 miles south of Roper Lake. We have spent nights there on our way through when we just did not want to go the last few miles. We drive a 34' DP and tow a Jeep Wrangler plus a Motor Cycle and a canoe on top the Jeep. We mostly BOONDOCK in USFS camp grounds or in dispersed areas. The Roper lake area is clean....small and nice. The lake is a lake by AZ standards..it is wet. However it is just a pond. If you go to Rodeo NM and then head into Cave Creek CG it is much more scenic. Lots of wildlife too....but no hookups. The other option is Roosevelt Lake 90 miles northwest near Globe where they have full hook ups. In the summer take your toad up Mt. Graham near Roper Lake.....how long will you stay and when at Roper?...it gets old quick
