Asking for a friend about Gunnison, Co Parks & area

I'd like to get some feedback from campers on the Gunnison area for a friend who is looking at that area.

Are there a lot of things to do in the area?

Sunbirds go there to stay for extended periods of time?

What do you think of the parks generally?

Do you have any experience with Blue Mesa Escape?

I've been to Salida and Buena Vista. How do you think Gunnison compares.

Thanks

Here are a few blog posts from our trip to Gunnison covering places we visited, where we camped and some restaurants. We enjoyed the area and would go back.

We prefer the KOA in Gunny.

There is a lot to do in the area. Hartman Rocks is just behind the KOA and offers good hiking and biking. Crested Butte is just up the road and it is known for the mountain biking and hiking. The road biking in also good there. Fly fishing, rafting, boating and lots of cool little towns and places to explore. I would say that Gunny is similar to both BV and Salida. Crested Butte beats all three.
