Badlands south of Wall SD

Anyone boondocking south of Wall SD, just north of the entrance to the badlands?
If so, How's the road condition? How crowded is it?

Thanks,
Philip

We're not there now, but we were there twice in June (going out west and coming back), and I'll tell you that when the temp gets to 90, there's a lot more room.
The southern entrance is more rutted than the northern, but the northern entrance has a fairly steep hill to climb when getting to the "wall". Not horrible, because I see rigs coming in that way. I think that I would still prefer going in the south entrance and leaving through which ever is closest.

Not at the moment, but I was there three weeks ago - it was hot - and I've never seen it so deserted in decades. Counted 13 rigs on the entire road one day.

Roads were good then, and it hasn't rained much since.

It hit 100 degrees yesterday here in Hermosa, SD which is not far from Wall. Not much moving around except for bikes headed to Sturgis. A couple of cooler days coming this weekend then back into the 90's. Not much fun in the daytime without shade and AC. But that's just me.

Thanks, I was thinking of stopping there this weekend with the cooler weather. Yeah, I don't want to be out there in 100 degree weather. That would painful.

We were planning to stay on the rim at the boondocking site north of the park entrance and east of the road from Wall to the park. Although we have decided against it this weekend. Not sure I could get back out after it rains. I need to get some better tires, I've almost got stuck in wet grass.

I'm planning on staying for a night on Aug 31st. Hope it stays dry.
I'm hoping for clear skies light winds and temps on the 80s during the day and 60s at night.

If anyone is heading that way this week please give a report.
I will give my report when I'm there.

Just messaged with a friend who was out there until yesterday. 95 degrees on the ridge. Sunny. Windy. (There's a surprise!) Road perfect. Wish I was there. Enjoy!

(P.S. She also said it was NOT crowded.)

Thanks for the report.
Forecast looks to be dry the next 10 days so it's looking good.
Thanks Buddy[emoji112]

Not a place we would want to stay - overnight or otherwise. We find the area interesting but dangerous if you get rain or soft ground. Summer or early fall? forget that for us.
Say in Wall - we like Arrow CG - and daytrip into the badlands. Have a couple meals at the steakhouse on mainstreet in Wall walk thru the drugstore.
