Best route to take from Jackson to Houston???

I see 3 options:

1. I-55S to I-10W. Last time we took this route, but I-55 was so rough we thought it would shake the RV to pieces, and Mapquest shows lots of construction on I-10 around Lafayette.

2. I-20W to just past Shreveport then to US59/I-69S. Mapquest shows a LOT of construction going this way.

3. I-20W to Rayville to US165S/190S. A more interior route with less construction but likely lots of stop and go. However, it does go right by Toledo Bend, and DH hasn't been there in decades!

We are more interested in best quality roads and easiest drive than we are in fastest route. We are in an RV, after all!

Look at dropping down on 79 from I20 through Carthage. Was just through that way and it was an easy drive. Not too many stops. Better to avoid I10 if possible too.

My view is to avoid the I20 and I10 as much as possible and enjoy the scenery along the back roads down to Natchez and east across, you'll have to find a route around the bridge outage on 63 though as floods earlier this year took out the bridge and it's not repaired still.

There are many state parks through that area so pick what you want to see, Martin Dies is nice, so is Magnolia Ridge State Park.

From looking at the map, it appears taking 79 would be the best way to get to Austin, but not so great for going to north Houston without adding about 4 hours driving time. Am I missing something?

I agree that I-10 is suboptimal. Last trip out we happened to hit Baton Rouge the day of the LSU/Ole Miss football game!

79 goes to Carthage and then I believe we took 315 through Mount Enterprise to 259. 259 and 59 into Houston are very good roads. 59 drops right into North Houston. Hope this helps.
