BEWARE CASINO PARKING in CALIFORNIA

If you plan on stopping at some of the Casino parking lots I would suggest calling ahead. Here is why.

We left a souther California beach campground and stopped at the VIAJAS CASINO just outside of San Diego in Alpine Ca. Had read lots of posts on different forums about what a great place it was to stay overnight. We drove around looking for the RV lot but couldn’t find it so parked in the farthest lot from the Casino. walked to the valet station and asked where the RV’s parked and was told that they no longer had an RV lot but that he thought I would be fine where I was. We spent the rest of the day in the Casino and the adjoining outlet mall. Once the sun was down we went back to the RV, a hour later there came a knock on the door. It was a tribal police officer who informed us that we had to leave right then. No RV’s or Big Rig trucks were allowed to park on the premises. Tried to explain our situation as I am of the age that night driving is not the safest thing to do but he was having non of it. There was no place to go and my wife was really getting worried. She went into the hotel and after talking to both the casino and the hotel manager they said we could stay there but only if we booked a room. We ended up spending the night in a very nice $200 room and left early the next day for a safe trip home. No more casino or any other commercial free spots for me, just isn’t worth it. By the was Viajus is a beautiful place but has the most unfriendly, rude employees I have ever seen.

So the no parking rule at this casino applies to ALL casinos in California as the title of the post suggests?

Rude employees cause they enforced the Rules?

Valet is least likely employee to have full knowledge of Rules/Restrictions
*red flag would have been when he stated NO RV LOT anymore

Should have Confirmed with Management earlier in the DAY so you knew/had other options during the DAY

I have had something similar to the OP. Turned out the the [Mod Edit] didn't know the casino rules that they were to enforce. They apologized but we left as soon as I finished eating.

On the other hand we have had several enjoyable times at other casinos in CA and other states.

Their property, their rules.

In response to the OP, we've never stayed at a casino, but everywhere we have over nighted that was not a campground we've asked permission from a manager first. I'm not sure if any were Chiefs or Braves though.

Here is seemingly recent info on the casino. It seems 1 night only is allowed. There must be a more recent change.

If you go to the casino website it has a link to an RV park. The lowest rate is $25 with no connections.

Any time you are at a “non traditional camping” area then you should get confirmation from management that you are able and allowed to stay the night there. Asking a low level employee if you are allowed and not getting a concrete answer is a red flag to being with, because the employee probably doesn’t know the correct answer. I know many of people who have tried to stay overnight at a Walmart that USED to allow overnighting only to have the same situation happen to them as you; A knock late in the evening and told to leave immediately.

Using an app like All Stays or Campendium (Or even your own previous visits to the area) helps you find overnight sites that others have previously used, but you should still verify with management before you think that you are good to go.

Just the vials as far as I know.

And yes I should have called ahead but to have a hotel with thousands of unused parking spaces to force anyone driving an RV to get a room seems a little over the top, especially when I spent plenty of money in the casino. I have over the years stayed a several casinos and never had any kind of problem.

The employees were rude long before I knew anything about a parking problem. Case in point I asked a employee on the floor were the coffee shop was, The reply “I have no idea.” ON n the plus side the Casino and Hotel managers were both very nice.

Because there is an RV park affiliated with the casino property, I can understand them not wanting RV's staying in the parking lot for free.

The point the Op is making is that calling ahead or checking on line is a best practice. No argument there.

There's a lot of homeless folks staying in RVs around Southern California, so I can understand the casinos cracking down. I doubt if they can ask you if you're homeless or not, so they probably just don't let anybody stay in the casino lots.

good to know about the casino's. some have been taken advantage of and property damaged. Sad but true. Rolling hills in Norcal has a nice rvpark. Seven Feathers in middle oregon has a nice dry camp park lot. Stopped at several other indian casinos and some are welcoming while others don't want you on the property. hard to guess unless you ask..

Should've been titled "Be Aware of ______ Casino parking", not the entire state. Our experience of casino parking is to call ahead and talk with their security staff as they are usually the ones who know whether you can overnight in an RV or trailer.
