Big bend np in 3 weeks

We plan a trip west in a couple weeks. Plan to be in Big Bend for about a week. Need some recommendations for 38 ft class A both private and Federal camp sites.

Also, would appreciate information on what to see and do in Big Bend.

Definitely stay IN the park at Rio Grande Village. There is a full hookup area and right next door is dry camping. There's a dump station and water fill and generator hours. You'd fit in either area. We like the dry camping area because the sites have good spacing. The full hookups are all in a line like most private parks. Have a great trip!

I don't know about RVing in the area... but... If you're going that far from Florida all the way to Far-West Texas, Please also take time to see the Davis Mountains, Guadalupe Mountains, and McKitrick Canyon. I hiked all over that part of the world when I was much younger. It's amazingly beautiful in places... If you can't get to anywhere but Big Bend, also try to take the River Road to Precidio. It's one of the most beautiful drives I've ever taken. If you're up to it, the South Rim Hike is awesome. The hike to the Window is nice, too..... Enjoy!

Realize the park is huge, and it is lot of miles from place to place.

Campgrounds - Big Bend National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Boondocking camping can also be done at the Cottonwood campground on the west side along the river. No dump, no generators are allow.

Up high in the Basin, no hook ups, and a limit on trailer and RV lengths.

Rio Grande Village already mentioned, has the water, dump and 2nd place to find gas in the park. Boondocking, generator area, and then the parking lot hook up place.

Always check the weather. When it rains, you can be stuck and stranded on the off road routes. Much of the park has little or no cell service. We rode the dirt river park road, west to east, for 56 miles, saw, 1 moving vehicle, 2 parked, and had no cell service on much of the route.

Outside the park, on the east side, down the deadend highway 2627, off 385, is Stillwell Store. Stillwell Store

Outside the park on the west side are more choices as well.

Look at the distance from Alpine to the west park entrance, is some 80 miles. From the park's west entrance up to a star party and back is 242 miles, in the dark in deer and javelina country.

I would second driving the route to Precidio and back on 170. But know it is 242 miles round trip from Rio Grande Village. But plan to do lunch in Precidio, and take your camera!

We stayed outside the park to the North in a private CG and drove several times into the park. We especially liked the drive on Old Maverick Road and Luna's Jacal...Hard to believe that this man lived and raise such a large family in this Jacal in such a harsh environment.

We did Big Bend 4 years ago. One of our favorite trips. Did it with 2 other couples. They had jeeps. Made us able to visit some of the lesser viewed areas.
We purchased a couple of tour books (soft sided) at the store when we enter park. Great info and historical information for all the sites.
We stayed at the full hookup sites in Rio Grande Village.
Our highlights were.
Entrance and exit of Rio Grande River into park.
Ernst tinija
Langford Hot Springs
Chisos mountains.
StillWell Store.
And many more.

Maverick ranch , La Jaitas, Tx. RV and Golf resort.
Full hook up and 50 amp. Great camp, restaurant across the street.
Maybe 15 Mi from the entrance to the park.not a lot of room in the
national park for big rigs.and very few full hookups.
