Blue Angels

The Blue Angels took their final flight today in the F/A-18 hornet. They flew right over where I am staying in Florida, Perdido Key RV resort and Marina, and I was fortunate enough to get a few shots. They have flown this “Legacy platform for 34 years and with this last flight they will now transition to the F/A-18 Super Hornet. It was awesome to watch them fly!

I remember watching them fly overhead when I was a young boy. They sure sent goose bumps down my spine! I remember Dad saying "I helped to design the radios in those planes they use to communicate with each other."

Nice shot! Blues flew over our house to! I think the new F/A-18 Super Hornets practiced today, only 3 were up! Saw them while fishing in Ft McRae lagoon next to Navy Base. Was going to post a pic be seems all I captured was video.

Nothing to do with the BAs, but I will never forget the time tent camping at a rustic campsite at Lake Arbutus WI in the early '90s near Black River Falls WI and a couple of A10's were barely over the treetop flight out of Camp Volk at 0745 and my 8 YO son in the pit toilet came out after just waking up and said he would not need to po_p again anytime soon. Warthogs definitely can sneak up on you. They made a sharp right turn over the lake and were done in an instant. Total audible passing was less than 30 seconds, visual maybe 5 seconds. Amazing they could design a plane that could go into a stall if the main gun was fired too long at one time.

Later that week in the local newspaper I learned one of the residents in the area had asked why the Air NG wasn't doing their early morning flyovers her house anymore.

We were outside looking, but we were too far North in Elberta, AL to see them.

One of the reasons I joined the USAF so many years ago was because of a fascination with aircraft. I was fortunate enough to see the Air Force Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels during my time along with an unscheduled landing of the Space Shuttle.

I've seen both the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angles perform at airports, but another of the coolest things ever was watching the Canadian Snowbirds perform, over Lake Ontario. While we were anchored. We had to leave an alley for the various aircraft to perform between the beach and the boats, but we were really close.

Those little CT-114 trainers are awesome, and while photos don't do them justice, they're really impressive up close, or as close as you can get while flying by at an airshow.

There was an air show near where I live several years ago, much of which was over the river, so we, and several hundred others, took our boat out to watch the show. Got some good shots that day, one so close that you can see the pilot in the cockpit. I was turning so fast to keep them in the viewfinder that I had no idea whether or not I actually got the shot until I looked later.

I was stationed in Pensacola from April 86 to November 89, at the Naval Air Station. Seen the BA everyday they were there, but still stopped and watched when they practiced, never got tired of watching them.
We were sitting at Lake Conroe when the Blue Angles went south to Houston from Dallas last May for the nation-wide flyover event. I took my wife and we drove out and found a place to see them go over.
Boy the wife was impressed and all smiles.

Blues

This is one of my favorite Blue Angle PIX. This pilot was really pushing the low altitude envelope.

They are well worth the time to see live. Been going to gulf shores for years. When ever they have a practice in Pensacola we make an effort to go see them. What a site. If you are ever in the area when they are there go see them. You will not be disappointed. Way closer to the action then any air show. Safe travels

Enjoy the journey
