We are looking for a nice CG, to meet up with some cousins that we haven't seen in nearly 2 years.

We are traveling from Delaware, and have a MH. They live in Wilmington, N.C. and want to stay in a cabin or motel near the CG location that we use.

We would like to meet somewhere in scenic Va. to see fall foliage, maybe some lake fishing (I carry a 12' porta-bote on the MH), a little hiking; mostly just catching up.

Can anyone recommend a good CG, possibly with cabins, or if not, one with nearby motel, which would be a good fit for this trip. Thanks all.

Many of the more Northern & higher elevation campgrounds shut down for the winter (Oct or Nov). Also you need to narrow your criteria down a bit. The Blue Ridge are a good-sized range (I currently live in the Snowbird Mountains, part of the Nantahala Range which is part of the Blue Ridge...) . Blue Ridge starts in GA and runs into NC spreads into SC a bit and touches into TN a bit. The GA campgrounds would probable be best for you. Try around Helen GA (reinvented into Bavarian-style town) popular tourist spot. Unicoi is a great SP and has cabins and hotel-type rooms as well as campsites. I beleive the campground is open year-round. Had best call for availibility as they are a very popular campground due to Helen.

You may want to consider Smith Mountain Lake State Park on Smith Mountain Lake. They have a CG with RV sites (water and electric only, I believe) and they do have nice camping cabins. We will be having peak colors in the next week or so. Also, we are near the Blue Ridge Parkway if you want to do a day trip and see even more fall color. There is a motel nearby....Lake Inn on Rt. 122.

SML is a 20,000 acre lake and the fishing is pretty good. There is a FLW bass tourney here next weekend so it will be busy. SML is about half way between Roanoke and Lynchburg....from Rt. 220 South use Rt. 122 North to the lake.

Another option is Buggs Island Lake which is south of us in Clarkesville. They do have several nice COE campgrounds.

Hope you find the right place and have a great time.
