Budget camping in Southeastern US Winter camping

We are leaving RI around the end of October, hope to be in NOLA for Christmas and spend the bulk of the Winter in AZ. We are looking for nice budget priced areas to spend a couple months. Not necessarily specific campgrounds but regions. Trying to keep expenses low so I am assuming FL is out, which is okay, as are other areas where every campground is a "resort".

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Florida might be OK, if you stay north of the I-4 corridor and away from the coasts. Also the panhandle area of Florida rates actually drop in the winter. Their high season is summer vacationers from the southeast area.

For any of the Atlantic or Gulf states, the farther you are from the water, the lower the rates will be.

Happy hunting.

On your way to Arizona you could find a place to fit your needs in Oklahoma. I don't know how picky you are but the El Reno campground is either 15/20 a night depending on if you need sewer hook up or not. We've stayed there several times and never had a problem. It's on the lake and next to a golf course.

Good luck!
