California to Arkansas

We are planning on heading to Arkansas the second week of Feb. how is the I40 traveling through Prescott, New Mexico, and Oklahoma this time of year. Do they keep it clear of snow and ice? Should I just wait it out in Arizona for another 2 or 3 weeks? Thanks

What has worked well for us was to check the forecasts for the areas we will be driving through, then go when the weather is favorable.

We have only came across there once during this time of year. I checked the forecasts, but somehow got a day behind and hit a storm during the evening. I found a rest area to pull into and the next day the storm was gone and the road was clear, but there were a few icy areas here and there.

Best of luck

Steve

flagstaff is ~8000’, albuquerque is ~7000’, oklahoma
is flat. storms are very possible. a bad storm can close portion of 40 until the crews can clear it. we used to run 40/44 between st. louis and flagstaff in early march. twice we had to run I-25 south from 40 at albuquerque due to 40 being closed east of and thru flagstaff.

I-40 doesn't go through Prescott. It goes through Flagstaff. You need to watch the weather forecasts carefully to hours before traveling. It's high elevation. One year at the end of April there was a bad snow storm west of Albuquerque and the highway was closed for 6 hours until they could plow.
