California to Utah trip

We're considering taking a trip to Utah to see my grandson in school there. The route would be Hwy 80 from Vallejo, CA. Has anyone traveled this road in a [35' - 38'] class A rv? I've traveled the route to Reno, but not beyond. Concerns are road conditions, drastic elevation changes, weather [Oct - Nov] and accommodations in Elko, NV. Any comments would be welcomed.

No worse grades than what you will going over Donner,
Several options in Elko and vicinity. Just be aware that the weather can change suddenly going across NV & UT so be prepared for winter driving or "sitting out" a storm.
If 18 wheelers can do it , so can you.

Should be fine - October - November might require you to keep an eye on the mountain Passes but all the rest should be fine.

Nevada Traffic Cams - Nevada Department of Transportation Traffic Cameras

How is good old Valley Joe - Lived there in 59-60 as my Dad had his Sub Built on the base there, Think it was an All American City one of those years.

Just a shout out to you............Things were so much simpler then.

Think you will be fine, might take a run at a few of the National Parks in the lower half of the state, as winter is, IMHO, a great time to visit - fewer people and not HOT.

Best of luck, let us know who it was.

Thanks for the replies. Weather concerns are noted. Busskipper, Mare Island was decommissioned nearly 20 years ago, as was NAS Alameda, my old stomping ground. Thanks for the link to NDTTC

Sorry for late reply. I took 80 easy last year with a 30ft and towed. Not a problem going up or down any of the hills. As others have said weather in October or November would be you biggest worry. Enjoy the trip
