Looking to visit San Antonio Tx in march. Ant suggestions on camp grounds? Koa and Blazing star look nice.

Wow! There are lots of CG's around the area. I hope you are staying a week or so. My suggestion would be Hill Country RV in New Braunfels, TX. We just stayed there for two weeks (on the hill) and enjoyed it. Indoor pool, jacuzzi, Sauna, party room and individual bathrooms with showers (Women have there own, men have their own, but share the same hallway) New Braunfels is 30 minutes from San Antonio, and about 45 from Austin, then there is all the Hill Country in between, Old Town Gruene is a nice day visit and a winery. The Grist Mill has great setting and good food. Schobel's Restaurant has a great buffet with a very nice setting. Hill Country RV is Passport America.

For closer to San Antonio, there is Braunig Lake RV Resort. The premium sites are the best, as the regular sites are very close together. They are a full time Passport America campground. There are others in the area, but those are ones I have stayed at. There is another one, a little pricy, near Sea World.

We have stayed at several campgrounds in the San Antonio area but we like Admiralty RV Resort https://www.admiraltyrvresort.com/. The park is very well kept, reasonable prices and they normally have several activities during the week. On Christmas day they even had a Christmas meal for those that did not have family near. If you are going to Sea World, it is 1.5 miles or so down the road from the park.

We have also stayed at the following and would stay at them again but we really like Admiralty RV Resort.

Wagon Wheel RV Park near Bulverde on Hwy 281. Small park but level sites
Texas 281 RV Park near Bulverde on Hwy 281. Very large park and good level sites
Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park between Hwy 281 and Hwy 35. Great for kids!
Stone Creek RV Park near Schertz. Big park lots of spaces and nice folks. HUGH flea market across I35.

X2 on Braunig Lake RV Resort. Great location for getting in and out of the river walk area of the city. Lots to see and do in San Antonio. As mentioned the sites can be tight, our first day we asked for a backin site. We had an empty site on both sides for our 15 day stay. Second time they gave us a PT as we were only spending 3 nights. We had someone new on each side every day.

The hill country is nice, but it is a fairly long drive if you plan on going into the city multiple times. We went in just about every other day as there was so much going on. Would not have wanted to make the drive from too far away.

High Country,

There are things for kids to do at Hill Country RV. There is one of those outdoor large "bouncing ball" type contraptions. Shoo him down there when you are getting ready in the mornings.

Laundry facilities were great also. Not really trying to push one place, as there are so many.

Two things that are great to see. One being the River Walk. It is one of our best spots to go visit. Make sure to take the river boat ride, about $6 a person for seniors and kids. The second one is "The Mission Trail." There are 5 or 6 Missions within short driving distance from one another. These are the old missions of long ago. Many of them still have church service.

San Antonio is a great place to visit.

If you are retired military, dont forget FT Sam Houston campground. Very spacious, with concrete pads.

I like Braunig Lake - although I've not been there yet - because they accept Passport America - looks pretty nice but always hard to determine by looking a photos and maps....I considered Blazing Star and Hill Country - any thoughts or info on those two??

I was looking at Admirality Park also, but in reading a lot of the on-line reviews they are not rated very well - is the key to ask for a particular site because most of the reviews were not happy with their sites - too narrow, etc.? Just wondering........Bob

If you get out of San Antonio, into the surrounding country side, you would be 20-40 miles from down town SA. The selection of campgrounds in the surrounding country side is quite better. There are several on River Road, New Braunfels, just make sure you know which way to got to a specific one on River Road. There is a nice one that is PA at the 4th landing in Sattler, TX. We have stayed there before and liked the locality for sightseeing. There's Yogi Bear's, Riverside Resort, Guadalupe Best, RV Hideaway, Walnut Canyon, Rockfield, River Ranch, Hill Country, and a lot more.

The furthest on of those is 51 miles from downtown SA. The ride into SA can be scenic, or you could take the Interstate and FM roads, all good. You will enjoy the area as there are many scenic things to see, and don't forget a visit to the Caverns and wildlife park, all within easy driving distance. Don't cut your time in SA short. There are many things to see.

We stayed at Travelers World for a week. It is just South of downtown a couple of miles and right in the middlle of three of the missions. It is next to the River and there is a new bike path next door that follows the river. The park is on the bus line with a stop out front. For a short visit with most of your activties within the city, I recomend it! It is clean and well maintained.

We stayed at Alamo Fiesta RV Resort in Boerne, TX. right off the interstate about 25 miles from Downtown San Antonio. Nice park, was $198 a week in 11/2011. When visiting the area visit Fredericksburg a quaint little German town. When downtown at riverwalk ( about 2 mile walk) go to Market Square and eat at Mi Tierra a mexican restaurant, very cool place to eat and a place to visit. if you don't eat there get something from their bakery. Don't forget the zoo in San Antonio, inexpensive and a very nice way to spend a day.

Have used the Gembler Road KOA several times. Its biggest advantage is the Bus Stop outside the gate which gives access to downtown without the need to Park. The "trolleys" run a shuttle service around the centre. and inner San Antonio too. KOA staff will fill you in on the details.

We stay at Travelers World on south side of San Antonio, 5 miles from river walk and the Alamo. Bus stop right outside entrance. Very easy to get to and easy to get to downtown. For kids I would recommend the zoo, maybe Six Flags if you/they are into that kind of activity. And the Institute of Texan Cultures near down town. San Antonio and surrounds have much to see and do. Enjoy.
