Camp Verde AZ area
Planning our trip to drive our "new" 2005 Beaver Patriot from Palm Desert CA to Nothern New Mexico on Feb 18th. We were told the Camp Verde area of AZ might be a good place to stop for our 1st night EVER in a motorhme. Anyone have any suggestions in that area?

Distant Drums RV at exit 287 ( I think that's right) of I -17. Some sights in the area are Montezuma's Castle and Well. Town of Jerome and Sedona. You'll probably need a couple of days to explore the area. I think they still Honor Passport America.

I second the Distant Drums RV we stayed they last year, nice park, we will be there again in about 3 weeks. Didn't spend much time in the casino but don't miss a trip up to Jerome, very interesting town.

Distant Drums is the best in the area. We have stayed there a few times, in our travels, and always enjoyed it. They are a PA park as well.

As a first night ever, Distant Drums is an excellent choice. Easy access and friendly helpful personnel. A Passport America membership will keep it affordable. It is not cheap, but it will give you a few days to check out the other RV parks and state parks in the area.
Be sure to turn WEST when exiting the interstate. Our GPS took us to the casino since we arrived after dark and could not see the park to catch the error.

We stayed at the Thousand Trails Verde Valley Resort for 3 weeks in October and loved it. We aren't Thousand Trails members, but still didn't pay exorbitantly. Absolutely love the area. Must do Jerome and a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Sedona. Skip the Verde Valley Train and head straight to Durango, CO for the Silverton Narrow Guage.

Distant Drums is a great stopover spot. Very nice park, with easy access to/from freeway.

If it is just a one night stop on your way to New Mexico, then Distant Drums would be perfect. If you will be in the area a couple days there is Dead Horse State Park in Cottonwood. About 18 miles from the Camp Verde exit on I-17.
