31 year resident of Atlanta here. Just be aware that Stone Mountain is a suburb of Atlanta and you are only about 25 minutes from downtown. The park itself is nicely done but it is popular and is busy. There is a ridiculous amount of traffic in the Atlanta metro, regardless of day or time of day. We've never camped at Stone Mountain -- we are lake/boat people so when staying close to home, we are at one of the area lakes -- at a COE campground or Margaritaville (at Lake Lanier -- northeast part of Atlanta metro). Good luck with your trip/stay.

Thank you for the advise. My wife has a 3 day seminar a the World center. We have made reservations already at Stone Mountain so we will soon see. This is a great forum to learn about this Hobby we all enjoy. Where I come from we have over 40 campgrounds just in our county alone.

Stone Mountain Campground is located in one of the most beautiful parks I've ever seen. And it's right on the water.

There are 2 hotel resorts in the park, and they have a huge laser/music show nightly in Summer. When Ray Charles starts singing "Georgia", it almost takes me to tears.

Read the fine print on the COE parks. Often you can't move from one cg on a lake to another cg on the same lake without a short gap between the 2 stays.
